Medicaid for Section 8 Tenants

If you receive a Housing Coupon Voucher (HCV) through a Section 8 program, you might qualify for additional help with your expenses through Medicaid.

Medicaid is health insurance that helps many people who do not make enough income to pay fully for medical care. For these people, the government might pay for some or all of the medical bills.

Requirements

There are certain requirements that must be met, including

b. whether you are pregnant, disabled, blind, or aged,

c. your income and resources (like bank accounts, real property, or other items that can be sold for cash), and

d. whether you are a U.S. citizen or a lawfully admitted immigrant.

There are special rules for those who live in nursing homes and for disabled children living at home.

You might qualify even if you receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Social Security Income (SSI).
