I would like to start by sending my congratulations to you and your baby, you are about to embark on a period in your life that will be exhilarating, challenging, overwhelming, comforting, exciting, terrifying, emotionally and physically draining, emotionally and physically rewarding, frightening, empowering and revealing at the very least.
A period which will see you as an important part of a huge group of like minded individuals yet potentially feeling lonely and isolated.
You will have many choices to make, many questions to ask and there will be many people only too happy to impart their knowledge to you, whether you want it or not! This time of your life until your baby is born and way beyond will be a time of wonder and also of great responsibility, you will have the health and wellbeing of your child to consider for years to come.
The decisions you will make over the coming months and years are very, very important. You will doubtless be hungry for information about your present condition and about what you can expect in due course and this information will come from myriad sources. Just the fact that you are reading this shows that you are prepared to get the best possible information to make your pregnancy as easy as is possible.
Everybody wants you to have an easy and peaceful pregnancy but it is inevetible that during the period up to the birth you will have a multitude of things to think about and plans to make.
There is probably no other time in your life when diet is as important both for your health and for your babys, what about exercise - good idea or not, if so how much?
What is the current thinking on medicines, what do you do if you get a headache, what options are available to you?
Baby names - what are the most popular, what are the most common ones?
Playing music to baby or talking - what are the current thoughts on that from experts in this field?
Much as you may not want to consider it yet, at some point your baby will want to be born, in fact it will insist! How do you want to handle that, do you want a home birth, a natural drug free birth, perhaps both or perhaps you would rather be cared for in hospital with all the drugs you can get your hands on! What do the experts say and equally important, what do other mothers and mothers-to-be say.
How involved is dad going to be, pacing up and down outside the delivery suite or inside with you?
What sort of backup and help is available during your pregnancy in your area both before and after the birth - how do you find out this sort of information?
Have you booked doctors appointments, scans etc. yet? What about antenatal classes?
Do you have any idea how you will cope with heartburn, back ache, uncomfortable nipples and one hundred and one other little niggles which you may encounter?
Holidays, is it a good idea to fly and if so for how long, what do the airlines say?
Have you thought about what baby's nursery will look like?
Choosing a buggy is almost as complicated as buying a car and nearly as expensive - could you do with some guidance on that?
Is it going to be nappies or disposables or are there other options?
Got your babys name down for school yet? (It some cases it may almost too late).
What about decent and safe remedies for morning sickness or piles?
