According to the latest reports from the FBI, a bank robbery takes place in the United States about once an hour. Even though banks and credit unions train their employees about what to do in such a situation there is little if any training available to the "common" person. One "good" thing is that you may not even know that a robbery is taking place. That's because the vast majority of bank robberies happen when the robber passes the teller a note informing him or her that a robbery is taking place and that the teller should hand their money over to them.
If you are in a bank when it is obvious that a robbery is taking place you should follow the advice of most law enforcement officials. If you asked them they would tell you that the best thing and the most heroic thing you should do is try to notice whatever details you can about the person or people who are robbing the bank.
For example, you might try to remember their physical characteristics. How tall are they? How much do they weigh? What color hair and eyes do they have? Do they have any tattoos or scars? How about their mannerisms?
See if you can remember what they're wearing, the type of weapons they are using (if any), and the direction they went after they left the bank.
In any case, you should never use force to try to stop the robber. Remember that more and more bank robbers are using drugs such as methamphetamines when they are trying to rob a bank. And the one thing you don't want to do is mess with someone who is using a drug like that. It just isn't worth any amount of money.
And, if you think about it, why would somebody rob a bank? I think you'll agree that they have to be really desperate. So you'd be dealing with a desperate, probably scared, and possibly drugged individual. Do you really want to get involved?
Also keep in mind that your money is insured and that the only thing that you would be risking is your safety and the safety of the rest of the people in the bank. So let the robber get whatever he or she wants.
The quicker the robbers gets the money the sooner they will leave the bank.
And, if it's any solace, either the robber has done this before or he'll probably do it again. And the more often he tries to rob a bank the more likely it is that at some point in time he will be caught.
So, even though you might get angry, you've got to control your temper.
