The direct competitor of CSS, XSL or Extensible Stylesheet Language was a computer language used to bring the functionality of DSSSL to XML. Eventually, it was used as a style sheet language. Part of its family include the XSLT (XSL Transformations), XSL-FO (XSL Formatting Objects), and the XPath (XML Path Language).
