5 TIPS for Home-Based Business Entrepreneurs

By: Perry Gage

Have you ever heard that only a small part (5%) of 'all' Home-Based Business entrepreneurs achieve success?

Do an online research on your favorite Search Engine and you will understand what I mean.

In this article I'm going to show you the KEY to Home-Based Business entrepreneurs success; you'll find out what makes an entrepreneur succesful in the home-based business field.

Below are 5 TIPS for Home-Based Business Entrepreneurs:

1.) It's their mindset that brings success

Serious entrepreneurs have 'programmed' their mind to succeed no matter what. They don't lack focus on their home-based business and let nobody stop their plans in achieving what they want.

They know what they want and they have the DESIRE to succeed. If you don't know exactly what you want when it comes your home-based business, think about it again and re-consider your plans, what you want to achieve, a get-rick-quick or a profitable, long term business.

2.) It's their start-up plan that brings success

Smart entrepreneurs know that it takes time to set-up and grow a profitable home-based business. They plan to succeed. They have a start-up plan that might fail but they never give up and start again with a better plan.

Serious entrepreneurs know that it takes discipline and time to build a strong and solid home-based business, which delivers ongoing income through many years to come.

3.) It's their initial RESEARCH that brings success

Smart and serious entrepreneurs know the importance of market research. They know that in order, for a home-based business to succeed, they have to research their target market (their potential customers) and study their competitors.

Research your target market and study your competitors in order to have a long-term, profitable home-based business.

Know what your customers want and give it to them. Keep an eye on your competitors, study their offer(s) and make sure you come up with a better deal than them.

4.) It's their marketing strategy that brings success

Study each successful entrepreneur in your marketing field and you'll notice how they market online / offline.

Each of them have their own 'unique' marketing strategy but they use the same basic principles.

Don't re-invent the wheel. Use the main marketing concepts that are proven to work but try to improve and adjust them to your own situation. Make them work for your home-based business. Make your offer better and unique than your competitiors if you want to WIN in this business, or simply quit (I know that's no what you really want!)

5.) It's their investment that brings success

Smart entrepreneurs know that the KEY is to work SMART, not hard. If you don't have the required skills to develop a NEW marketing tactic for your home-based business why not hire a consultant who knows his stuff?

If you have 'enough' money why not invest in someone who can help you grow your home-based business and give me something to work at too?

What is more valuable to you, your time or your money?

A serious entrepreneur is ready to invest (both time and money). He knows that he will build a long-term successful business for him and the one he loves (friends, family, children, etc.)

The final (or first?) STEP you need to take in order to succeed is to act (take ACTION!). Yes, put into practice what I have told you above (the 5 TIPS for Home-Based Business Entrepreneurs) and you'll succeed, no matter what. Trust me!

The best home business will depend on what you want, how you define to be interesting. A person may consider a pet sitting business to be the most exciting work in the world, while another person would rather watch TV than take care of dogs.

The key is to determine what your interests are, what you want to do, what is suitable for your lifestyle and your overall goals, and what can fit with your resources.

Here are some articles that provide tips on how you can choose the best business for you:

1. List 5 things you do best
2. List how others would benefit from what you do best
3. Find out how to give people what they want
4. Learn the value of your services to others
5. Find out who else offers similar services
6. Learn from the successes of others
7. Learn from the failures of others

Is it possible to start a home business at your home? Array

Ideas for starting a small or home-based office is about you. Make a list of your skills, education, work experience, or hobbies for business ideas. Then take a look around your community to see what you can offer. Ask friends, relatives, and neighbors for input. There are quality websites that will provide you with steps to take in starting a small business with minimal cost.

?Small Business Planner - Information and resources - planning, starting and managing a business to help you succeed. Careful planning is fundamental to success. (sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner)

?Small Business Administration (sba.gov) provides a business plan tutorial and outline
?Internal Revenue Service - Basic federal tax information for starting a business.
?Entrepreneur.com - How to Start a Small Business, Small Business Startup.
?AllBusiness.com - Starting a Business Tips and Advice
?US Government (Business.gov) - Starting and managing a business

First decide what area of business you want to pursue. Research the business and competition in the area. Formulate a business plan that list what the purpose/function of your business will be in detail including pictures, diagrams, descriptions and how you will stand out from your competition.
Also be sure to include financial information in the plan... like estimates for different costs you may incur. Have someone proof your plan, like provide their opinion on your product/service and your financial projections. Get lots of opinions, change the necessary information - make sure you do a lot of research.

Take your plan to the bank to get a small business loan. But before you go, make sure the presentation is well put together and well thought out because banks are about serious business and will only consider those serious about pursuing their venture! Good LUCK!
Advice from other contributors:

?If you live in the USA, you can contact the Small Business Association (.org). They help person of all ethnic groups and of all income types, (well, maybe not rich people) draw up plans to help you get low interest loans and sometimes grants to help get your business started. They may be listed in the phone book under "Federal" or "Government" pages.

?Ownership is the key to wealth. However, owning a traditional business can be very costly and stressful.

1. You can start a small business
2. You can start a franchise
For these 2 options you will need to hire (and retain) employees. This often seems as though you are running an adult care! Until your business grows, you will probably work for 5 years without receiving a paycheck.

3. Or you can start your own home based network marketing business with a minimal start up cost and devote 7-15 hours per week working to pursue your goals of financial freedom and time freedom. Network marketing is simply a distribution system, or form of marketing, which channels goods or services from the manufacturer to the consumer through a "network" of independent distributors. It's a wonderfully effective system that cuts out the "middleman" found in most industries. Since the manufacturer does not need to pay for advertising, warehousing, etc., they use that money to pay their distributors for introducing others to their products. Products offered by Network Marketing companies are superior because the company can spend more money on research and development.

When looking at a Network Marketing company, there are four key business facts that need to be considered when looking at building a network in direct sales. ~Your business must have cutting edge consumable products ~The timing and trends in our society are a factor ~There must be a large expanding target market and lastly ~It must have the ability to leverage both time and money
Starting a Network Marketing Business is simple but not always easy. It requires determination and hard work but the rewards can be amazing. I am building a Network Marketing Business with an amazing company. They offer free online training and they encourage each of their consultants to participate in daily personal development. My upline has trained me to work a system for success. With Network Marketing you are in business for yourself but not by yourself! Your upline does not succeed unless they help you succeed and you don't succeed unless you help your team succeed. This industry is a breath of fresh air compared to corporate America!

Information on becoming a virtual assitant? I have worked as the billing manager and personal assitant for a private psychotherpy practice for the past 5 years. I am interested in taking on other clients and, after some research, feel that offering services as a virtual assistant (with some limited on site services concerning orginizational needs) is something that similar providers could use. I am interested in any websites or articles that discuss establishing such a business, as well as any hints or suggestions from others already working as VA's. Thanks so much.

Admin 16.07.2007. 12:05

Virtual assistant is one of the best home-based businesses right now, and many businesses and individuals alike are warming up to the idea and need for virtual assistants.

Here are some resources I suggest to help you learn more about becoming a virtual assistant

Starting a Virtual Assistant Business http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/0,4621,316200,00.html
How to Start Your Own Virtual Assistant Business http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol40/virtual.htm
Tips on Winning a Virtual Assistant Position http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol132/virtual.htm
Start your own virtual assistant business http://www.usatoday.com/money/smallbusiness/tightrope/2001-03-07-tightrope-howtova.htm

However, the market is relatively new. As virtual assistant, a key part of your marketing strategy will be educating potential clients how your service can help them.

As such, networking and word of mouth are extremely effective strategies in marketing a VA business. I interviewed a VA and she said that one of the best ways for her to get clients is by attending local networking events. She is very active in the organizations that she participates in, and that has helped her raise her profile in the community and for potential clients to know what she is doing. She also networks online in forums and other online communities. You can read her story here http://www.womenhomebusiness.com/startup/kmann2.htm

You can also hook up with other VAs; they may be able to give you some contracts and assignments. Here are some associations and networking groups that you may consider joining

International Virtual Assistants Association http://www.ivaa.org/
International Association of Virtual Office Assistants http://www.iavoa.com/
Alliance for Virtual Businesses http://www.allianceforvirtualbiz.com/
International Association of Administrative Professionals http://www.iaap-hq.org/
Virtual Assistant Networking Forum (VANF) http://www.vanetworking.com/
Virtual Business Group http://www.virtualbizgroup.com/
Virtual-Professionals.com http://www.virtual-professionals.com/

For in-depth information about becoming a VA, I suggest you read any of the following books http://www.powerhomebiz.com/bookstore/va.htm:

One of the first things I would recommend that you do is start thinking about your interests/passions... and go into an internet business that is based on that. Why? Because it makes the work a lot easier.

Answering the following questions should help you develop ideas:

1) what websites do you visit when you're just surfing online?
2) do you have pets?
3) do you play and sports?
4) do you collect anythings?
5) do you have any specialized education?

See what I mean....

After that, you've got to decide the business model that you want to use - do you want to develop you own product or do you want to be an affiliate marketer (market other peoples products)?

Then you've got to learn basic skills such as building and uploading websites, setting up autoresponders, setting up a merchant account to take orders, etc.

And then, probably the most important part... you have got to learn how to market you business. If your interested in starting up your own internet business, then I would like to suggest the following:

if you don't have much experience with computers and the Internet - http://www.affiliatemarketinglessons.com/warpspeedwealth.html

If you have good experience with computers and the Internet - http://www.affiliatemarketinglessons.com/IS2006.html
(TIP! - A trial version of this training is presently being offered for a limited time - http://www.affiliatemarketinglessons.com/IS_trial.html)

In both cases, the money back guarantee is rediculous...you simply cannot lose and they can do that because of their success rate...

If your interested in affiliate marketing (marketing other people's products/services) then you'll want grab a copy of this book - http://www.affiliatemarketinglessons.com/superaffiliate.html

If your interested in joining an existing internet business, then I would recommend SFI Marketing Group (http://affiliatemarketinglessons.com/SFI.html). I would recommend that you join this opportunity either way because 1) its Free and 2) you'll learn a lot through their training.

Anyways, I hope this helps... and I wish you much success.

Read the "10 Tips for Avoiding Home Business Scams" http://www.powerhomebiz.com/052005/scams.htm to avoid being conned on the Web.

One way would be to earn a little amount from paid surveys. The rule, as always, is to stay away from those that ask you to pay before you can get these surveys.

I dont even mind paying for a survey sight if they will give me good paying surveys.

Ways to Make Money Online: A Guide
The idea of making money online is attractive to many, primarily because of the benefits it offers. Two main incentives are motivational factors here: The lucrative potential of the internet as well as the personal freedom that comes with working without a fixed schedule or geographic location.

One doesn?t need to suffer through monotonous day jobs which offer poor returns for the time invested.

Indeed, why make $7 an hour selling coffee behind a counter when you can easily earn the same amount by spending 10 minutes to write an article on your blog?

Even if you?re not looking to work full-time at home, the internet offers a viable source of money which can help to supplement your regular income.

Cataloging the Different Ways to Make Money Online

A basic search on Google will reveal many ways to make money online and most of the websites listed in the search results pages all seem to focus on the same methods of making money.

I thought it?ll be a good idea to categorize and compile a list of the online money making methods available so that future visitors to Dosh Dosh will have a reference point which provides them with all information they need.

This list uses a rather broad categorization, which I believe covers most of the ways to make money online. More methods and examples of how to make money online will be added to this list, which can be considered a work in progress.

1. Set up a Blog or Website for Profit

One of the best ways to make money online is to create a website or blog which allows you to earn money from the display of advertisements or the sale of products and services.

There are many different types of money making blogs which will help you to make money and you?ll need to pick a model that suits your interests, schedule and skill levels. A simple no frills blog will allow you to easily pull in at least several hundred dollars in a month through the use of paid blogging websites alone.

For more information, check out Dosh Dosh?s archive of articles on how to make money blogging. Apart from blogs, other websites can easily help you to generate passive income as well. These can range from e-commerce websites, social communities and information portals to basic landing pages for affiliate programs.

2. Learn about Affiliate Marketing and The Art of Selling

This involves promoting a specific product or service and earning commissions whenever the referred user makes a purchase based on your recommendations.

Affiliate marketing is a big and profitable industry that covers a wide spectrum of topics and fields. If you?ve got an interest in fitness, you can make money promoting fitness videos or courses. In terms of fashion wear, you can earn commissions by recommending friends to clothing or t-shirt companies with affiliate programs.

The amount of money you make depends on what you are selling. Done correctly, affiliate marketing is one of the most powerful ways to make money from the web. Amazon, Commission Junction and ClickBank are three of the biggest affiliate marketplaces you can use if you?re branching out into affiliate marketing.

3. Start an Online Business

Starting your own online business or company allows you to make money off the provision of specific services or products you may have. Some examples of popular online trades include web design, copywriting and internet marketing.

It isn?t difficult to start a business. It?s all about hiring the right people or having enough knowledge and connections within a specific industry. You should do some in depth research before you decide to settle on a specific niche for your business. Entrepreneur.com has a good collection of tips on how to start an online business.

4. Try Out Domaining and the Online Real Estate Trade

This is the business of buying, selling, developing and making money from domain names. A domainer purchases many domain names and sells them to interested buyers. This is similar to real estate investing offline and domainers also make money by developing websites and reselling it to a buyer.

This practice is known as site flipping and can make you a tidy sum of money if you know how to build an attractive and profitable website. For a rough estimate of how much money you can earn from site flipping, check out the SitePoint Marketplace to browse through the collection of websites for sale.

5. Participate in Get-Paid-to Websites

There are hundreds of websites out there which you pay you to read emails, do surveys, sign up for trial subscriptions and surf the web. Websites that pay you to complete offers are worth examining because they usually include affiliate programs with recurring commissions to be earned.

The benefit of get paid to websites is that you don?t need to have your own website or any personal skills at all. The downside is that there are a lot of get-paid-to scams around and fi
