Creating Effective Corporate Blogs

By: Colin Ong TS

The terms "blog" and "blogging" have become part of the new economy dictionary and are an extremely cheap and efficient way of disseminating information through the web. A blog is best described as an online diary that readers can also post their thoughts. Many subject experts and academics have created open blogs (free access) that are read by thousands of readers and futurists are predicting that these blogs will emerge as the new mega magazines.

Which leads to the question about why companies are slow to create corporate blogs in order to promote their organizational goals and ideals. The reason for this lax attitude is that corporate blogs can be misinterpreted for techies and the employment of full-time blog administrators as too costly.

Before creating a corporate blog, determine some guidelines. Here are some tips:

Clear Organisational Message:

Before starting a corporate blog, you have to be very clear about the organizational message and direction. The reason is that your blog will be read by the public who may also be potential customers who have different global perceptions. You do not want your blog to convey negative perceptions of your organizational values.

Determine Success Targets:

The setting up of a corporate blog is not just an opportunity for people to ventilate or post their comments online. There must be clear success targets. Feasible short term targets are the generation of new sales leads and increase in customer database. In contrast, a medium term target can be the creation of new alliances.

Promote Your Alliance:

Your corporate blog can be used to highlight your current alliances and give your customers a better understanding about your global reach. You can invite representatives of these organizations to either be guest bloggers or have a separate blog within your main corporate blog. With enough online exposure, your corporate blog can also evolve into a dynamic networking online community.

Great Feedback Channel:

Invite your customers to post their comments in the corporate blog and get your blog administrator to act on the feedback as soon as possible. This will give the image that your organization is very serious about all feedback and you can also rectify the problem before it escalates. The more advanced blogs can also provide immediate sms to blog administrators once a feedback has been posted too.

Value-add to Your Print Newsletter:

A corporate blog can value-add to your current monthly print newsletter. One way is that some online postings can provide article-ideas for future newsletter issues. Blog visitors can also request for print newsletters to be posted to their homes.

Test Out New Products:

Your organizational engineers and sales team can use the corporate blog to test out new products and ideas. This is an effective and cheap solution as your blog readers should already have a good idea about how these ideas should co-exist with your other products.

Security Measures:

Ensure that your corporate blog has security measures that prevents spamming to your blog readers. This will ensure that spamming will not create a definite negative image about your company. Your blog administrator should also ensure that there is no flaming and that all potential debates should not be a battle of personalities.

Not Infringe Intellectual Property:

Some blog posters may introduce other websites which may have beta versions of new products. To some blog readers, this may be purely educational but the implication for your organization is that it may infringe intellectual property

What are excellent & current economic questions to ask a successful business person? For example, "Do you think Reaganomics was an effective economic system? Could it be implemented successfully in today's economy?"

Four Economic Questions to Ponder
http://www.minyanville.com/investing/articles/realmoneysilver-doug-kass-economy-corporate-profits/6/6/2011/id/34977

I'm not sure the purpose of asking tired and lame economic questions that have no applicability, that have been tried and failed, that nobody can do anything about. Where are you going with this? What are you trying to accomplish? What is the reason you are asking these questions? What is the setting, some kind interview for a job, are you writing a paper or thesis, doing a survey?

We have heard over and over for more than a year that the economic problems in Greece is fixed or will be fixed, or maybe more debt will fix the debt problem. At what point do you begin to see the futility of what they are saying, and begin to see how little they are doing or are able to do?

My questions:

When did it become the JOB of politicians and banksters to control the economy?

Who gave Washington authority to speculate in currency markets, create unfathomable debt in peace time, suspend mortgage laws, support other governments and economies economically, own private businesses, or bail out anyone and choose who fails or not?

When did government become an entitlement process?

What are the negative implications of allowing politicians and banksters to continue to commit treason, create unprecedented debt in peace-time, disrupt our economy and create a bigger problem and crisis than would have been expected?

Didn't the banksters, the ones with a politician in their back pocket, create this financial crisis? Why did we reward them and bail them out, instead of allowing them to fail? If he says something about a spreading financial crisis, then ask if the system is broken, shouldn't it be allowed to fail so it can be replaced?

QE2, intervention, and bailouts. What happened to the free market?

Which part of Marxism have we not tried yet? Do we have to fail as a Socialist society to prove, yet again, that it doesn't work?

Help with Writing Contracts for new company? A friends and I want to start a web blog. We can foresee this getting quite large in a couple of years so we wanted to get proper formalities and legal stuff out of the way before that could happen. We have already written an employment contract but we are unsure as to what other contracts are required and are recommended. For example positions in the company, payment, employment termination and so on.

How can I get more quality linkbacks? How can I get good linkbacks to my website to boost Google ranking without spending an arm and a leg? The keywords I'm trying to boost my website for are highly competitive like ex: "Toronto Limo"

The website domain is relatively new, so I know that it will take some time for better Google results, but I was curious of what white hat tricks I can use to boost the website. For reference, the website is www.crownlimo.ca

Are you listed in the relevant online Toronto business directories? If not, that's a great start. It would be good to be in directories specific to things like weddings or corporate travel, but even general sites like TorontoWebsites.ca can be very helpful and provide solid backlinks.

Get listed in Google Places. I did a quick search for "toronto limousine service" and did see a listing for you. That's a free and easy place to start.

Create a Facebook Fan Page. That's a good way to not only get backlinks but to get some conversation around your services. Have people you know like the page. This might be very effective with the wedding-related customers. Use the page as a way to be interactive and to let people know what you're up to business-wise (e.g. if you add services, upgrade your fleet, offer special discounts for certain events, etc.)

Make some more YouTube videos. I saw that you have a couple there already and they are very nice. I'd suggest adding some with some live video, maybe of you showing off the vehicles that you use and telling people why they should choose your service. You could have a video specific to weddings, one for corporate transportation, another for nightlife and another for personal airport use. Tailor each video to that audience and highlight why they should pick you. Make the written description specific to that audience also. Each video is another backlink.

Update your blog more frequently and link between your blog and your website. Internal links are still good links, especially if you use good anchor text. Offer travel advice that people are more likely to link to. Your post on how to pick a toronto limo is a good example. I'd suggest using more list-type posts with a few bulleted items to make your point. I'd also suggest writing posts specific to your different audiences (wedding, nightlife, corporate and airport transportation). Offer advice like "5 things to know before renting a limo for your wedding."

Once you have some posts like that, then you can look for forums or sites where potential customers are asking questions about renting limos. You can answer questions by providing a link to the post. If you do it right (by being sincerely helpful) you can establish some trust and get good backlinks.

Kind of along the sames lines, post to a forum like limosuinesonline.com which looks like it allows signature links and use your keywords as anchor text back to your site. Be sure to also set up all of your info in a profile there.

If there are blogs related to either your industry or to the specific audiences that you serve, find blogs where you can leave valuable comments or advice. Usually the comment section will allow you to leave a URL that will link the name you use back to your site. While it's tempting to use "Toronto Limo" as your name so that that becomes the anchor text, that's never a good idea. Comments that use a real name for the name are way more likely to get approved.

Do you partner with any wedding planners? Some have a list of recommended resources. Ask if you could links from their sites.

I saw you've already done press releases. That's good too for getting backlinks.

The key is to be consistent and diversify. Each day create a few forums posts or blog comments. Each week do a couple of blog posts on your blog. Update the FB fan page regularly. Create a few more YouTube videos. A backlink strategy with a combination of all of these links will get you on Google in before you know it.

Good luck!!

What is meant by ?network economies?? How do these benefit Microsoft? How is Sharepoint relevant here? plz answer

zubair k

Admin 28.01.2011. 18:05

According to a blog shown below, the collaboration provided by Sharepoint product of Microsoft, is creating economies in networking costs. (This means optimizing use of networking effectively and lowering the cost.)

From the blog, the author writes:
More specifically, this is what I personally expect from a collaboration tool that supports file sharing:
Easy access to the files so that we can access the files from any computer or device equipped with a web browser
A user interface is simple to use so that occasional users can find their way around and perform their tasks without the need for education
The possibility to organize and tag the files so that users can find them easily by browsing and / or searching
The possibility to share the documents with anyone we want to share them with,

However, the blog goes on to say that users have problems with Sharepoint and that is probably because other products have to serve to organize the Sharepoint workspace effectively. OneNote is a product that works with Sharepoint, and Microsoft has some new products in the 2010 Office Suite.

Sharepoint is a product that allows companies to sponsor an effective filesharing intranet to employees on a global basis if needed, while remaining within the confines of the corporate security network. This is my understanding of these concepts, but further research is available at Microsoft.com

Blogs, or web logs, are one of the fastest-growing means of mass

communication. Though blogs originally gained mainstream attention in

the 2000's through articles in prominent newspapers and magazines,

several popular weblogs now rival traditional media outlets in terms

of readership and arguably, cultural relevance. The "blogosphere" has

affected elections and corporate policy, and some blogs have millions

of readers a day. Moreover, they are fun to read, and writing them

can be enjoyable, too.

Steps

1 .Choose what type of blog you want to create. Carve out a niche and pick a catchy title that captures the essence of your blog. Remember that a blog, like your clothes, is an extension of you. For most people your blog site may be the only thing they identify you with and you want to be sure that who you are on the inside is reflected in your blog.

2. Decide how often you are going to post. Some claim that posting at least once every day is best; Some also say that three quick posts a day are far more effective than one long post every three days. Others claim that when they update a blog every other day they get more readers than when updating two or three entries in a single day. Heck, write whatever you want ? it's the content that matters. Whatever you do remember that for most bloggers, it's all about reading and many of them would prefer quality over quantity. Once you get started you'll find that you attract a certain readership, and you may have to adjust how you work your journal to appease and keep the readers you've obtained.

3. Get some things together beforehand because some recommend putting together about a month's worth of material before you tell anyone about your blog. It is recommended that you just start writing and fame will come in time. Feel free to go back and rewrite entries to make everything just the way you want before or after you "go public." You can edit any entry at any time with most blog sites. Writing a popular blog doesn't happen overnight. The essence of the blog stems from journaling which means the blog is FOR YOU. Work it how you feel most appropriate.

4. Tell close friends about your blog and ask them to tell their friends. Often if you use it as another way to network with those people around you, you'll get a better response. If you push it too hard don't be surprised if they ignore your blog because they feel you're fishing for compliments and attention...remember, blogging is about you, and the more attention you put into yourself, the more people are going to notice.

5.Look around the Internet for blogs that people love to read. Read and post to them religiously. Leave a note that actually has something to do with their site so that they know you actually took the time to pay attention to the material posted. Do not expect anything back in return. Just commenting will cause others to be more likely to visit your blog and do the same. Often, when you make comments to sites, a link to your own personal site will already be included with your comment, unless you are posting from one hosting site to the next. If you're at ITW and you read a blog on Myspace then it would be appropriate to include such a link.
6Build a network with other people in the blogosphere - make friends online. This is the best way to get readers and a great way to meet people you would otherwise never know. If you get one thing from blogging, this will be it.

Follow these steps and make a good blog reflecting your views on the topic you have chosen.
