Take the High Ground With Quality PR

By: Robert A. Kelly

Quality public relations does something positive for business, non-profit and association managers about the behaviors of the key external "publics" that most affect their operations. In other words, it alters individual perception that leads to changed behaviors among their really important outside audiences.

In so doing, PR helps persuade those key external audiences to the managers' way of thinking, helping move them to take actions that allow for managerial success.

The alternative to quality PR suggests this question for managers: are you simply looking for publicity, or do you want public relations that really CAN change in- dividual perception and lead to equally changed stakeholder behaviors that help you get your money's worth?

If that's the high ground you have in mind, take a look at this PR action blueprint: people act on their own perception of the facts before them, which leads to predictable behaviors about which something can be done. When we create, change or reinforce that opinion by reaching, persuading and moving-to-desired-action the very people whose behaviors affect the organization the most, the public relations mission is accomplished.

Thus, public relations quality begins with these two realities: 1) the right PR really CAN alter individual perception and lead to changed behaviors that help you succeed, and 2), your public relations effort must involve more than good times, booklets and press releases if you really want to get your money's worth.

Results, for example, like membership applications on the rise; prospects starting to work with you; customers making repeat purchases; stronger relationships with the educational, labor, financial and healthcare communities; improved relations with government agencies and legislative bodies, and even capital givers or specifying sources looking your way

With the passage of time, you may well see rebounds in showroom visits; new proposals for strategic alliances and joint ventures; community service and sponsorship opportunities; enhanced activist group relations, and expanded feedback channels, not to mention new thought- leader and special event contacts.

Quality results means your PR crew - agency or staff - must be committed to you, as the senior project manager, and to your PR blueprint starting with target audience perception monitoring.

It's really vital that your most important outside audiences perceive your operations, products or services in a positive light. So be certain that your PR staff buys this approach. And be especially careful that they accept the reality that perceptions almost always lead to behaviors that can help or hurt your unit.

Emphasize for your team the plan for monitoring and gathering perceptions by questioning members of your most important outside audiences. Questions along these lines: how much do you know about our organization? How much do you know about our services or products and employees? Have you had prior contact with us and were you pleased with the interchange? Have you experienced problems with our people or procedures?

Should your budget be able to accommodate professional survey people to handle the perception monitoring phases of your program, fine. If not, always remember that your PR people are also in the perception and behavior business and can pursue the same objective: identify untruths, false assumptions, unfounded rumors, inaccuracies, misconceptions and any other negative perception that might translate into behaviors you won't find acceptable.

Time to establish your public relations goal, one that speaks to problems that showed up during your key audience perception monitoring. In all likelihood, it will call for straightening out that dangerous misconception, or correcting that gross inaccuracy, or doing something about that ugly rumor.

Obviously, a PR goal needs a PR strategy that shows you how to reach your new goal. You have three choices when it comes to handling perception or opinion challenges: create perception where there may be none, change the perception, or reinforce it. As always, a bad strategy pick will taste like vinaigrette on your toasted bagel, so be certain the new strategy fits well with your new public relations goal. For example, you don't want to select "change" when the facts dictate a "reinforce" strategy.

It's just plain hard work persuading an audience to your way of thinking, so your PR team must develop some very effective language. Phrases that correct the original aberation and, at the same time, are compelling, persuasive, believable AND clear and factual. You have little choice if you are to correct a perception by attracting opinion to your point of view, leading to the desired behaviors.

Take the time to review your final draft message for impact and persuasiveness. Only then can you select the communications tactics most likely to carry your words to the attention of your target audience. Dozens are available, from speeches, facility tours, emails and brochures to consumer briefings, media interviews, newsletters, personal meetings and many others. But be sure that the tactics you pick are known to reach folks just like your audience members.

Strange but true that the credibility of a message can depend on how it's delivered. So, on the chance that may be true, you might want to introduce your message to smaller groups rather than using higher-profile tactics such as news releases or talk show appearances.

Curiosity will prompt requests for a progress report which will prompt you and your PR folks to consider returning to the field for a second perception monitoring session with members of your external audience. Using many of the same questions used in the first benchmark session, you'll now be alert for signs that the bad news perception is being altered in your direction.

You can always accelerate the effort if you feel the need to move things along at a faster clip - try more communications tactics and increased frequencies.

Just who is the manager who takes the high ground with quality PR? Why, the business, non-profit or association manager whose public relations effort delivers the kind of key external stakeholder behavior change leading directly to achieving his or her department, division or subsidiary objectives.

Here is the list with top 9 link building tips that I highly recommend you to use when starting to build your links.
1. Directory Submission
Getting listed in dirs is good for you, you get a lot of backlinks. I am posting here only high quality, free, human reviewed, PR6+ directories only ( BTW I checked the PR of the directories I am providing with Google Toolbar and I have to say that there is a big difference in their PR since the last update. I have seen many directories that have fallen from PR6 to PR0, I suppose they have used some black seo to get promoted and finally they lost their PR). The good thing about these dirs is that if you get your site listed you will get lots of traffic. The bad thing is that the review proccess of your site often is more than 3 months. Here is the list I use:
http://dir.yahoo.com/ PR 8
http://www.dmoz.org PR8
http://www.stpt.com/ PR 8
http://www.open-site.org PR 8
http://www.femina.com PR 7
http://www.portal.eatonweb.com PR 7
http://www.bloggernity.com PR 6
http://www.podcastzoom.com/ PR 6
http://www.bloguniverse.com PR 6
http://www.gogreece.com PR 6
http://www.lanic.utexas.edu PR 6
http://www.sacentral.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm PR 6

http://www.nzs.com/ PR 6
http://www.info-listings.com/ PR 6
http://findingblog.com/ PR 6
http://www.iguide.co.il/ PR 6
Of course there are more good high PR directories but I will leave the search for them to you. You can use google to find some, but the lists that come on first page results shows the old PR of the directories. So in my view these 21 dirs that I have posted here a worth to submit to them. Don?t get mad if you are not listed after 3 months from submission. Your time will come, don?t give up!
2. Link Exchange with other webmasters
This is also good way to get backlinks. When contacting other webmasters write in personalized way. Tell them why you want to exchange links with them, introduce your site to them, tell them more about your site. Try to exchange links with only high quality sites with higher PR. You may find good partners to exchange links, the best way is contacting them in personal, or you may use some forums to find link exchange requests, and last but not least you may use some automated link exchange sites. Here are some of them:
http://www.build-reciprocal-links.com/ PR 6
http://www.linkdiary.com/ PR 5
http://www.telalinks.com/ PR 5
http://www.linkexchanged.com/ PR 5
http://www.belinked.info/ PR 5
http://www.linkwizard.net/ PR 4
Using these automated link exchange sites will also boost your backlinks and you will get many relevant links to your site. You can find much more sites like these but to be honest I think these ones will do a perfect job. You can always ask google about something like: ?free automated link exchange sites?, ?free reciprocal programs?, ?free link building programs? and some more search terms like these.
If you want first to check the pagerank of the site you will be exchanging links with I recommend you to use:
http://www.digpagerank.com/ - In this site you can check the PR of a page or site in over 700 google datacenters
3. Article Submissions
Maybe I won?t tell you something new but try to write good quality unique articles and post them to the best free article directories. This is one of the best way to do 2 things for your site: first get a lot of backlinks from the articles and second get a lot of traffic I hope you know that you have to put your keywords that you compete for in the anchor text which is very very important for higher results in the SE?s.

http://www.instantcashflow.org/free-article-directory/ PR 4
This list is only 11 sites long but if your article gets listed in all of them expect more than 1000 visitors to come to your site from the link in the article.
4. Press Release Submission
This method is something like writing articles and post them almost everywhere. In fact using this tactic you have to write a press release about your site or a page from your site. The process is the same. You have to submit the press release to good press release distribution sites. Below is the list of the ones that I am using.
http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/ PR 6
http://www.pr.com/press-releases/ PR 6
http://www.free-press-release-center.info/ PR 6

http://www.newswiretoday.com/ PR 5
http://www.free-press-release.com PR 5
http://www.pressreleasenetwork.com PR 5
http://www.prfree.com/ PR 5
Hope these 13 sites will help you to get much traffic. If you submit regularly to them and your site or articles gets listed there expect to get at least 200 unique visitors daily.
5. Social Networking / Social Group Sites
Social networking sites are very useful these days not only to get links but also huge traffic. Participating in social group / networking sites are proving to give boost to your traffic these days. Here is my list:
www.myspace.com PR 8
http://spaces.live.com/ PR 8
http://www.livejournal.com/ PR 8
http://www.orkut.com/ PR 8
http://www.friendster.com/ PR 7
http://www.linkedin.com/ PR 7
http://360.yahoo.com/ PR 7
These are one of the best social group sites. There are a lot more but I think these are enough, they are high quality and have a high PR ( 7+). They are perfect for getting good backlicks to your site.
6. Getting link from .org , .gov and .edu sites
The education, organization and government sites are considered much more valued sites and links coming from those sites are valuable. You need to search and find such sites.
Do a simple search on Google with this search term:
You may use another perfect search term special for edu blogs:
With this string you will get all .edu blogs that allow posting comments and do not require to be logged in. Hope you find this string perfect. You can experiment with it for all kind of domains, it?s up to you. Make blog comments and put links in them, make sure your comment is genuine and not spam. You have to read the whole topic and find something to comment on the topic, job is done. After doing some comments maybe in a week you will see in Google index that you have links from .edu domain or .gov
7. Social Bookmarking Site Submission
This is the newest technique to get quality backlinks to your site. These days people like to share their interests in social bookmarking sites. Posting your interesting article to such sites will boost your traffic and give you thousands of visitors. But it is not so easy as it sounds - you have to write really good article, or news or something very very interesting to get your article on first page of these sites.
Don?t waste your time or money submitting to sites that don?t receive traffic! Use this list of sites for the best social bookmarking results

8. Forum posts
This is the way I like best for getting backlinks. Find forums that are in your niche and create account with them. In userpage write your homepage and you have a backlink. DO a search on Google and you will see how many forums are out there, you will be amazed. Do this process many many times and you will have one way links pointing to your site. You can combine this with forum posts and this way you will get your signature shown much more times. Personally to me it doesn?t matter that forums have nofollow tags, Google still counts that as a link to you.
9. Blog comments
Another great way of letting the world know about your site. This method is similar to forum comments, again most of the blogs comments have nofollow tags but Google still count this as a backlink. Here is another good way to get a backlink from a blog?s main page:
Find blogs that have ?top comments? or ?recent comments? plugins, this way if you are top commentator you will get your link on the main page of a blog. Do this with blogs that fall into your category. I didn?t knew that but a friend told me this method and I must say that I see good results for now.
10. Get a link on a mainpage of PR 9 sites
This one you probably do not know but I am going to share it. Spare some time, do a search for sites that have PR 9 and have a donation section in their mainpage. I am sure there are at least 20 such sites. In this donation section they post latest 20 or 30 donators. Do a donation for at least 1$ and you will see your site listed there.

Its features are:

- High Resolution 16.2 MP DX-format CMOS sensor
- High Speed 6 frames per second continuous shooting up to 100 shots
- Breathtaking Full 1080p HD Movies with Full Time Autofocus
- Dynamic ISO range from 100 to 6400

What were some of the prices of items students were buying in the 1960s compared to today's prices? Some help would be nice.

Admin 17.12.2008. 00:51

Here are some prices I found dating to the late 60's:
Adler knee socks $3/pr
Lady Manhattan cotton shirts $5
nail polish .19, ditto for lipsticks
Ford Mustang was @1800; high-end Buick @3000; Cadillac @4000
McDonald's hamburger .15; cheeseburger .25
haircut at "high-end" salon $5, otherwise $3

For groceries: ground beef .49; can tuna .19; loaf of specialty bread .19; quart of milk delivered .25.

Note that everything was US made, fabrics were pure cotton or wool or silk (no polyester), and the quality was far superior to practically anything you can get today.

Is nikon d7000 great for night shots? i am planning to buy a Nikon d7000 and i was just wondering if it would be good for night shots like shooting a moonlit landscape or stars at night.I I have got a tight budget and i can't shell out more than the price of d7000.Please help, thanks.
which would be the best lens for the above said purpose?

salam ramkrishna

Admin 27.03.2012. 15:06

It is great for night or low light shots.

The D700 shoots clean pictures at 1600 ISO and usable up to 6400. For example something like the bouquet toss at a reception is often done in poor light. By using 1600 instead of 400 you get the equivalent of 4 times more light. At ISO400 your flash may need to use 1/4 power and you can get 1 maybe 2 shots of the toss and catch before the flash needs to recharge. At ISO1600 your flash would only need to use 1/16th power and now you can get 5-6 shots, all the while maintaining high picture quality.

Some of its other features are:

- High Resolution 16.2 MP DX-format CMOS sensor
- High Speed 6 frames per second continuous shooting up to 100 shots
- Breathtaking Full 1080p HD Movies with Full Time Autofocus
- Dynamic ISO range from 100 to 6400
- Ground-breaking 2,016-pixel RGB (3D Color Matrix) exposure sensor

Read this review from a user. It has great detail and gives pros and cons of the camera:

Hope this helps.

Cooking prime rib steak? I need to know what would be the best way of cooking three 1 1/2" PR steaks. I have an electric grill, cast iron stillet, or the oven. Thing is I only have 4 hours until dinner at the most.

Oh and some good marinate (or is salt, pepper, and garlic good enough)

Admin 27.12.2007. 21:30

The first answer appears to be more appropriate for a prime rib roast than a steak. I use a range top grill for steak (if your electric grill has enough square inches, use that; I never use the broiler in my oven but if you've had success with that, go ahead); my second choice would be the cast iron skillet, again if the surface area is sufficient for your steaks.

I heat my range top grill to the highest heat possible (check temp by sprinkling a few drops on the hot grill ... if it sizzles and evaporates instantly the grill is hot enough).

Prime rib steaks have a lot of flavor on their own ... and really don't need a marinade for tenderizing (generally). If you feel that you need a marinade, some of my friends swear by a good quality bottled Italian salad dressing (or any other salad dressing with wine vinegar and good olive oil). Otherwise, use sea salt, freshly ground black pepper and fresh minced garlic. My friend occasionally gives me a fresh batch of home made lemon pepper blend, which makes a really nice rub for grilling beef.

Remove your meat from the fridge as far in advance of cooking as you can tolerate. My friends the foodies tell me two hours is safe, the most I can bring myself to do is one hour. This way, you are not putting frigid meat on a hot grill which immediately lowers the grill temperature. You might get the meat nicely seared but you add to the cooking time while the grill reheats after the shock.

Time ... for steaks this thick, at least 7 minutes on the first side (for rare) ...

Enjoy your dinner and your guests.

Chrominum otc natural remedy for depresion any exp/knowledge? Array

Leprechaun of Jupiter

Admin 12.02.2008. 01:27

i guess you mean Chromium. Chromium works with insulin iin the metabolism of sugar so will therefore help prevent and lower high blood pressure, work as a deterrent for diabetes and help prevent sugar cravings and sudden drops in energy. It also helps to bring protein to where the body needs it.

Foods rich in chromium are ~ calves liver, wheat germ, brewer's yeast, chicken, corn oil and clams.

Natural remedies for depression i do have vast experience with !!

Firstly, congratulations to you for thinking for yourself and not going down the antidepressant / prescription pill path?

Tryptophan does a brilliant of conquering the blues i reckon.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that's used by the brain - along with B6, niacin (or niacinamide), and magesium (known as the antistress mineral) - to produce serotonin (the natural feel good drug), a neurotransmitter that carries messages between the brain and one of the body's biochemical mechanisms of sleep.

The EFA's in foods rich in omega 3's such as cold water fishes like tuna, salmon, sardines and whiting are also essential in this process to nourish the neurons that are receiving the messages from the neurotransmitters.

The Doctor doesn't tell you that when you go complaining of depression now does he .............. he surely should though.

Tryptophan will help induce natural sleep; reduce pain sensitivity; act as a nondrug antidepressant; alleviate migraines; aid in reducing anxiety and tension and help relieve some symptoms of alcohol-related body-chemistry disorders and aid in control of alcoholism.

Best natural food sources of Tryptophan are; cottage cheese, milk, meat, fish, turkey, bananas, dried dates, peanuts and all protein rich foods.

Best natural food sources for magnesium are: leafy and green vegies, ground up nuts and seeds to aide in digestion, cold water fishes such as tuna, sardines, whiting and salmon.
Magnesium rich foods will also aide in constipation issues you may have.

Best natural food sources for niacin are: the white meat of chicken, whole wheat products, roasted peanuts, fish, eggs, avoacadoes, dates, figs and prunes.

Best natural food sources for vitamin B6 are: wheat germ, fish, soybeans, brewer's yeast, cantaloupe, cabbage, blackstgrap molasses, unmilled rice, eggs, oats, peanuts and walnuts.

Take a good quality multi B complex supplement including all the B's ie: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 you will support your body in dealing with the everyday stresses life throws at us. ie: new job, new home, school studies ...... the B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy digestive, neural and immune systsem functioning.

As the B complex of vitamins is a water soluble complex our bodies can neither produce or store them, therefore we need to ingest them on a daily basis or suffer from a wide range of side affects ie ~ fatigue and exhaustion, excessive urination, muscle cramps at night time, terrible dry mouth and a thirst that can't be quenched no matter how much water you drink, headaches and migraines, nausea and vomiting, dizzy spells and fainting, inability to think clearly, irritability and moodiness, depression ~ stress, constipation, insomnia, excessive sweating, tingling and prickling and numbing sensations in the outer extremities and even chest pains and heart palpitations !! Quite scary actually if you don't realise the vitamin factor.

The whole food source of tryptophan and all other vitamins, minerals amino acids etc.... will always be the most nutritious and easily assimilable form.

Drink more fresh filtered water too as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one.

Things that will rob you of your B complex of vitamins are caffeine, tea, sodas and soft drinks, alcohol ( if you drink) ~ all these will also dehydrate you terribly ~ antidepressants, antiobiotics, laxatives, diuretics, aspirin, otc cold and flu medicines, prednisone, tobacco and ulcer medications?

Take care of you?

is the Nikon Coolpix p500 a good choice? what are you opinions on it?
i dont want to spend like a thousand dollars on a DSLR and im not hoping to go professional. i just want a camera that takes good pictures and looks pretty cool. plus its around $300, better than $1,000.

Display nameless

Admin 15.02.2012. 20:33

I suggest you should definitely go for p500. It is a great camera that fulfills all your requirements. I have a list of its pros and cons:

- HUGE 36x Optical Zoom (at full zoom I could see buildings 5 miles away as if they were two blocks away)
- Relatively lightweight and compact, much smaller than I expected.(compared to an entry level DSLR)
- Up to 240 FPS video, nice slow motion.
- Manual controls, a must for any experienced camera user.
- Buttons well laid out and simple to find and use.

- Image quality was good but it was pretty much expected, nothing extraordinary for this price range. If you prefer higher quality images over features in this price range, an entry level DSLR such as the D3100 is the way to go.
- If you accidentally leave the lens cap on and turn the camera on, the lens will still try to come out and it will grind the motor. BE CAREFUL! I found this to be the biggest flaw, not having a "lens cap on" sensor or a resistance sensor that would stop the motor if it sensed something in the way.
- No supplied external battery charger. You have to charge the battery while it's in the camera, via USB cable and supplied AC adapter. And while it's charging, it won't let you power it on, so you can't use it as an AC power source either.
- As with all super high zooms, every tiny vibration is magnified so unless you have a tripod or some kind or support, it's extremely difficult to get a clear shot at maximum zoom.

Cage - Well you need a cage, of course. The cage is one of the most important considerations because it is your budgie's home and will be where your budgie spends most of its time.
Size - I recommend at least a 1.5 foot wide x 1.3 foot deep x 1.3 foot tall cage (about 45x40x40 cm). Remember, budgies are very active and playful, and they need plenty of room to stretch their wings, flap about, and climb around. Make sure the bars of the cage are no more than half an inch apart. This will prevent any mishaps with curious budgies getting their head or body stuck between the bars. For more info on appropriate cage sizes, click here.
Perches - Make sure the cage is equipped with good quality perches. If you purchase a cage that only comes with plastic perches, the best thing to do is to buy some wooden perches. If you can, buy a couple perches that are differently sized/shaped. This will be good for your budgie's feet. Also provide your budgie(s) with at least one natural branch perch. You can create one on your own with a tree determined as non-toxic to birds. You can also buy one at a pet or bird store. When arranging the perches, place some slightly higher and lower than each other if possible. If the cage is big enough, you can also place a small perch in the corner of the cage. Such a varied arrangement will stimulate exercise. You will also be able to enjoy watching your budgie hop cheerfully from perch to perch!
Equipment - Also make sure the cage comes equipped with a cup for seed and a cup for water. If not, you will need to buy these at a pet store. You can also replace a water cup with a water tube and buy different types of feeders.
Seed - The next thing you will need is a high quality seed. I do not recommend grocery store seed, which is usually poor quality and not as fresh. Use fresh seed with at least 40% straight canary seed. You can buy this at most pet stores, and it is best if they come in sealed plastic bags. You should also know that all those added colors in a lot of pet bird seeds are completely unnecessary. I would recommend avoiding seed containing artificially colored ingredients.
Cuttle Bone and Mineral Block - You need to provide your budgie with a cuttle bone and a mineral block. These items are readily available at pet stores. These white powdery blocks provide your budgie with essential nutrients and calcium. You may notice your budgie uses one sometimes as a perch, or grinds away at it with their beak with a lot ending up on the floor. Don't think that it is going to waste and take it out. A budgie left without these items for a long period of time will become deficient and may develop medical complications.
Toys - Your budgie needs toys and items in the cage to keep them active and stimulated. A bored budgie can suffer both emotionally/behaviorally and even develop health problems. Remember, budgies are extremely active and playful. They like to jump, climb, flap, and perform acrobatic feats. Favorite budgie toys tend to be swings, bells, and lattice balls with bells in them. Rings and other toys are also great. Just remember to keep the size in mind. Make sure they are the correct size for budgies. Also check them out before you buy them to make sure they will be safe. It is not an uncommon occurrence for a budgie to become injured from a poorly designed toy, usually by getting their head stuck. Use the same discretion you would use in buying toys for a small child.

Daily Care - Your pet budgie needs daily attention if he or she is an only bird. If he is tame, take time each day to take him out and talk to him. If you're having a busy day, try to take him out on your shoulder while you're doing housework or doing your homework. If he is not hand tame, take some time and give him some attention. Talk to him or watch him sing and hop about. Every night it is a good idea to use a light sheet or blanket to cover the cage. This will not only provide security for your budgie, but will also help to keep him quiet if he has a sing-in-the-morning personality and you want to sleep past sunrise. Just be sure to uncover him every morning.
Food and Water - You need to check your pet budgie's cage every day to make sure he or she has plenty of food and water. Especially when the days are hot, change the water every day to keep it fresh. It is important to supplement your budgie's diet, as a seed-only diet will not provide adequate nutrition. At least every other day try to provide your budgie with a fruit or veggie to munch on. Don't leave fresh foods in the cage too long, perhaps a couple hours at the most. Budgie favorites include carrot tops, dark leafy greens, and strawberries. You will learn what your particular budgie has a preference for. Just make sure to keep his diet varied to ensure your budgie's health and longevity.
Cleaning and Maintenance - About once a week you will need to change out the liner in the bottom of the cage. I recommend using

Which laptop would be better for gaming? Hi, I have a decision between two laptops. I would use the laptop for gaming and to surf the web. I would the Graphics on the game to be med-high, and to multitask on websites. I came across these two laptops:
Intel: Dell Inspiron i15RV Intel HD 4000 http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i15RV-10000BLK-15-6-Inch-Textured/dp/B00AM7MM84/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

AMD: ASUS K55N-DS81 Radeon 7640G http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-K55N-DS81-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00B7K11MI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1373491533&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+k55n-ds81

I don't know how much RAM the Intel will hold, But the AMD Laptop can hold 16 GB. I need a suggestion please!

Neither of these are true gamers but can play games on low settings. Between the two go with the ASUS. The Dell might have a i5 but has Intel graphics. The AMD A8 APU has the 7640G graphics and is just a tad better.

If you can pop for a few more dollars check out this HP. It has the latest APU fro AMD and will give you better play then the two you listed.

This HP can be customized to what you need. If you want better performance upgrade the APU to a A10 and increase the ram to 8GB.

Brand buying advise

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.
