Blog Problems

By: Jesse S. Somer

The real bloggers must come from another planet. I can't find any here on Earth.

What in the world is up with the world of blogs? Blogs are meant to be this great new technology where people can share their ideas and interests with others around the globe. As far as I'm concerned the state of blogs is one of chaos, confusion, and anti-interactivity. The other day I decided to do some research on the Web and try to connect to some blog writers out there that interested me. Let me tell you it was not an enjoyable task as I had envisioned. I spent four painful hours surfing through around a thousand on-line journals, and I found only a few that interested me. What are we doing out there people?

First of all, just getting to a blog can be a pain in the arse. For example, you type in the words 'Philosophy blogs' and a whole bunch of sites come up. Some are conglomerate sites with thousands of journals, but the area you're searching for may have only one blog in it! This is because they separate the blogs into a million different categories, like 'love', 'lovers', 'lovable' etc. Why not have just a few main categories to choose from?

The next problem is the content. People with 'philosophical' blogs are having personal chats with their mates about the local dance competition on Tuesday! Why not go to a chat room if you just want to talk to your friends? Blogs are supposed to be a personal viewpoint expressed to the whole Web community. Wouldn't you actually like to meet more people like yourself? How is this going to happen if you talk in strange uncommon slang and acronyms that you and your friends can only understand? Please stick to the subject at hand, and take it at least half seriously.

Another major problem is the fact that you can find a really cool blog that sparks an interest, but then find that the writer hasn't added an entry in over a year! What's it doing on the Net? Have these people passed away? I seriously doubt it, as there are so many blogs in this 'lost' state. Having a blog is a responsibility; it's a shared diary for the whole community. How can someone form a relationship if you only write in your blog once a millennium?

Back to the subject of content: These on-line journals are a real chance to communicate regularly with others with similar views to yourself. We can learn a lot from each other, as each human is an individual with special traits and skills that only they have. So why do we see so many blogs just talking about trivial nonsense like 'Who the coolest movie actor is.' Humanity is an intelligent species evolving everyday towards a higher consciousness. So where are all the thinkers out there, the people who have taken us to the next levels of spirituality and scientific exploration? I'd really like to hear what you've got to say, but all I can find are philosophical beliefs on why died pink jeans express one's true inner self.

The issue of making comments on someone's blog is also a controversial one. Why have comments sections if you're not going to reply to people who have expressed an interest in what you've had to say? How is this community going to function if all the conversation is one-way! Come on people, wake up and smell the onions! Let's change the blogging community into the awesome structure of shared knowledge that it was intended for. Please don't let it turn into the small-talk world of chat rooms.

How to manually change my blogs Wordpress permalinks? I know how to set the default structure if I was setting up a new blog, problem is I have 53 posts already up and I want to change the permalinks without actually using a plugin or a 301 redirect.

Can I change the settings and then go into each post one by one and update the permalink manually or will this bork my site altogether?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Whatever option you choose it won't mess up your site. What it will do however is to make the urls currently indexed in Google etc. link to a now non-existent page so the visitor clicking on a a link in Google will be taken to your .404 page.

That will fix itself next time Google updates it's index

Is there any way for multiple users with separate accounts to post on the same blog? Right now, my friends and I are sharing a blog. The problem is, when we post, we get confused as to who posted what. Is there any way that we can have separate accounts, but still post on the same blog?

If you use Blogger, you can add team members, then each blog post says which team member posted it.

And for the steps to create a Team blog read:

Any ideas for a creative and different blog? I would like to write a blog. The problem is that everything I can think of is either way random (someone talking about the things they like, spending an hour to blog about skittles and how they make everyone feel) or just typical (Baking, life, sports, gossip...) I really want something different and not weird. Alas, there is a fine line.

Try doing a blog filled with pictures and some educated thought about it. Some cousins of mine traveled and rather than write about their trip and the places they visited, they took pictures of the food they ate and referenced what locale they were eating in, and critiqued the food a bit and just generally said positive/negative things.

It was pretty cool, you didn't have to read all the words, and it was very artistic.

How to remove a blog post frm search engine? I posted an entry with my cell number on blogger, and have since removed my cell number from the blog entry. Problem is, my number still comes up frm the search engines. Pls help:(

Admin 10.12.2009. 07:51

I believe that the only solution is to contact the search engines in question and ask that they remove those pages from their search results. If you own the website in question, you can also use webmaster tools on some engines to block specific pages from showing up in searches - but your best bet is still to contact them and explain the situation.

Have no idea?
Ask yourself!
What do you want?
What can do you do with your potential?
What the others need from you?
I hope a little question above can bring you up :))

How do I add pictures on a self page on tumblr? I made a self page on my blog only problem is i don't know how to upload pictures onto it. Could someone try to tell me as easily as possible, i don't pick up things too quickly LOL. okay thanks.

Admin 27.01.2013. 20:24

Tag all the photos of yourself with "self" then make a link on your tumblr layout

To make the link go to your blog then click the customise link in the top right.

Then paste this code in the description section, but replace "YOUR-URL" with whatever your tumblr url is and remove the spaces:

Photos of me

Then a link will appear so people can click on it and all the photos you have tagged with "self" will be there :)

NOTE: with some tumblr themes that dont show the description section you will have to paste the code directly in the html instead of the about me

How do I put a fixed background in a blog theme? I set up a theme for my blog and the problem is that I want to put a background image on it, but it only allows for a background color. The text and pictures and sidebar backgrounds are all transparent and show the background color though them.

What HTML could I use to set up a fixed background while the blog posts have infinite scrolling?

For the body tag example:

height: YYpx;
margin: 0 auto;
background: #fff url(image_name.jpg) no-repeat center fixed;
