Genital Warts Natural and Alternative Treatment Remedies

By: S.A. Smith

Have you been diagnosed with genital warts caused by the HPV virus? If so, your physician has probably advised you of the more conventional treatments available such as pharmaceutical ointments, cryosurgery (freezing), electrocautery (burning) or laser treatment. While many people undergo these types of treatments, some opt for a less invasive natural solution by visiting a Naturopathic doctor. While there is no cure for the hpv virus, there are specific natural treatments that may help reduce and eliminate the warts over time.

TOPICAL TREATMENTS

Before resorting to medically invasive treatments many people are choosing to try alternative treatments that may naturally help reduce or eliminate genital warts. Many holistic treatment resources advise that different remedies will work for different individuals so it may take a little trial and error to find one suited to your needs. Experiment with applying the following directly to the infected wart areas:

Goldenseal: considered to have natural antibiotic properties and may destroy many types of viral infections.

Tea Tree Oil: strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial aromatherapy essential oil.

Aloe Vera: healing and soothing properties.

Garlic Oil: or even raw garlic is believed to promote white blood cells ability to fight infection.

Sour Apple Juice: it is believed the beneficial effect is from the magnesium in the apple

Most of these topical treatments have not been clinically proven as an effective treatment for genital warts, but have shown to have positive benefits is related studies or in fighting other types of viral infections. Other notable mentions for natural topical remedies also include; cabbage juice, banana skin, chickweed, dandelion juice, rubber plant, and pineapple juice.

HERBAL IMMUNE BOOSTING SUPPLEMENTS

Antiviral herbal remedies taken internally to boost the body's natural ability to fight viral infections include the following supplements:

Echinacea: known for its ability to boost the immune system, is important in the treatment of genital warts.

Astragalus: used in Chinese herbal medicine for over 2000 years, Astragalus is known to improve the body's ability to fight off viral and bacterial infections, such as the Human Papilloma Virus, by boosting the body's immune system. Astragalus has been taken as a supplement by people undergoing chemotherapy to help restore their tired immune systems.

Garlic powder tablets: Once used in 1550 BC by Egyptians as an external treatment for tumors, garlic has long since been recognized for it's medicinal values. Of the many benefits garlic has on the human body, it promotes the ability of white blood cells to fight infection. A natural antibiotic, garlic is effective in countering bacteria, fungus and viral conditions.

Vitamins: Supplementation with high doses of vitamin A, B complex, vitamin C, E, zinc, lactobacillus acidophilus and the amino acid L-cysteine have shown to have immune boosting benefits.

In addition, other noted antiviral herbal supplements include dandelion, greater celandine (cheilidonium), mullein, thuja, houseleek, goldenseal, calendula, lomatium, pau d'arco and wintergreen.

DIET AND LIFESTYLE

It is also suggested that you take a proactive approach in improving your health through lifestyle. By reducing sugars and refined foods, reducing red meat, increasing vegetables and fruit, taking the necessary vitamins and minerals, drinking plenty of water, regular exercise and getting proper rest, you will boost your immune system which will help in fighting off the virus.

EMOTIONAL STRESS

Because genital warts are considered a sexually transmitted disease, diagnosis will often have an emotional impact on the sufferer. Many people will experience a whole gamut of feelings including guilt, fear, rage, isolation and helplessness. HPV is one of the most common viruses in the world with an estimated 20 million sufferers, so as you can see you are not alone. It is believed that emotional health has a direct impact on your physical health. Therefore it is important to work through these feelings. Contact your local STD clinic for a list of support groups available in your area, or there are countless support groups and message boards available on the internet. Through seeing other people's experiences, you will see HPV is a very manageable virus.

Since most of these natural remedies are considered reasonably safe, they may be worth investigating before turning to invasive and costly medical treatments. Ensure to discuss any alternative treatment strategies with your health care practitioner before starting them. HI Xandre

Here are some answers and remedies for the issue. Need to really look at her diet and learn about detoxing the body by doing a colon and liver cleanse to rid of the toxins in the blood.

Causes
Warts are caused by any of 35 viruses and are often a consequence of poor diet and nutrition, poor hygiene, and, in the cases of genital warts, unprotected sex. Warts also become more common as a consequence of aging with corresponding diminished immune function.

Caution: Some warts can turn into cancerous tumors. If they do not seem benign, consult with a physician immediately.

------------------------------...

Natural Cures

Note: Natural healing of warts may require one to two months of care, with the wart disappearing suddenly in one to three days.

Aromatherapy: Lemon essential oil applied topically can speed healing. Thuja oil is also effective for dealing with warts.

Diet: Eat an organic, whole foods diet, emphasizing foods that are high in vitamin A, such as dark green and yellow vegetables, cold-water fish, eggs, and sulfur, such as onions, garlic, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and broccoli. Avoid all refined and processed foods, sugar, unhealthy fats, and excess animal proteins, as well as milk and dairy products.

Herbs: a.Onions for Warts: Warts have been said to disappear when treated perseveringly with raw onion dipped in salt.

b.Wild Lettuce for Warts: The expressed juice is "much regarded as an application to boils, abscesses and carbuncles, and if put upon warts will cause them to drop off.

c.Garlic for Warts and Moles: Here is a very successful routine for removal of these unwanted growths called moles, or warts. Take a button of garlic, slice or cut in two, and placed the cup area over a wart of mole. Tape it on, and as it dries out put a fresh piece. Many users have reported good results.

d.Cashew Oil: The cashew oil, which must be used with great caution, is used as an application to warts, corns, ringworms, cancerous ulcers.

d.Potassium Deficiency for Warts and Moles: When cysts or tumors grow in places where they can be seen outside the body, often we react by having them cut out. This defeats healing by working on the effect instead of the cause. You can cut cysts out, tumors off, and burn warts off (which are also a potassium deficiency), or get rid of as many moles as you wish, but unless you go to the cause, they will grow back again, and you may end up with as many or more cysts, tumors, moles as before. Different signs of potassium deficiency will keep popping out on the body because the condition that needs correcting is on the inside. You have to go into the cause, Dr. Christopher always insisted, which is the way we have been eating.Potassium sources: There are several ways to receive your potassium. Dr. Bernard Jensen sells a potassium broth made from dehydrated vegetables. Dr. Bronner makes a similar, excellent product. You can also make your own potassium broth by simmering equal parts of red potatoes, celery, carrots, onions, and herbs to taste. Raw vegetable and fruit juices also flood the system with potassium.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include Thuja, Causticum, Calc carb., Ruta grav., and Graphites.

Nutritional Supplementation: Recommended nutrients include vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, garlic capsules, and L-cysteine.

Topical Treatment: A solution of garlic oil, vitamin E, castor oil, and zinc oxide cream can be applied topically to warts.

Alternative Professional Care
If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating warts: Naturopathic Medicine, Orthomolecular Medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

How do you get rid of a plantars wart on the bottom of your foot? I've gone to the doctor several times and he's used nitric oxide (I think) to burn it off but it keeps returning. He said the only other alternative is to cut it out! It's very deep and I would have to be off my foot for 1 - 2 months. Any other suggestions?

Finding A Plantar Wart Treatment -There must be a hundred different ways to treat plantar warts. It's best to start with the more conservative treatments and only move to the more aggressive treatments after the conservative ones fail. The best treatment for plantar warts, or any non-genital wart, may be no treatment at all. This is because up to 80% of non-genital warts disappear on their own within a year or two. However, if the plantar wart is too painful or if you are impatient, here are your options:

Over-The-Counter Medications - There are surgical methods, topical methods and injections. The most cost effective and the most biologically effective method of treatment involves injecting viral antigens into the wart itself.

Natural (and naturopathic) Medicines -These run the gamut. Herbal remedies have been created from many sources: aloe vera, garlic, a type of beetle, tea tree oil, goldenseal and from the bark of evergreen trees - just to name a few.

Home Remedies - This is an area where the truly creative methods of curing warts come out. Some are effective, for instance duct tape , and some are not.

Ok, these are not medical reccomendations, but I have heard anecdotally that these home remedies may work:

Duct Tape - Foot Wart, Plantar Warts Removal
I didn't see this remedy on your website, but it truly works... My husband and I each have a few warts here and there. The ONLY thing that has worked to take warts away has been to use a piece of silver duct tape. You just need a piece big enough to stick over the wart. Keep it there all the time - changing the tape daily. I guess there is something in the duct tape that our systems don't like and so our immune system reacts to the site of the duct tape, thus reacting to the virus of the wart as well.
When my doctor saw my warts on my foot (I was being treated for an ingrown toenail) she even suggested using duct tape. I have also read about the cure in a home-remedy book. It does take weeks to work and takes longer to work on plantar warts, but it works and it is simple and CHEAP! - S Jensen, May 28, 2004

Wart Removal - Duct Tape & Finger Nail Polish
Use clear finger nail polish to cover warts. It stops them from breathing and they die within 2 weeks. This is why duct tape and other covers work. Finger nail polish is less noticeable and stays on longer. Please note that it doesn't kill the virus itself. - BLS, May 28, 2004

Potato Skin & Duct Tape Wart Removal
Cut into a potato skin and place a small piece over the affected area. Then wrap both the area and the potato skin in duct tape, keep it on for several days (5 - a week). Continue until warts have disappeared. - Ward, Alaska, June 22, 2004

Remember:
avoid walking barefoot whenever possible - for example in a public locker room or shower
change shoes and socks daily
keep feet clean and dry
check children's feet periodically
avoid direct contact with warts on other persons or on other parts of your own body
do not ignore growths on, or changes in, your skin
visit a podiatrist as part of your annual health checkup

When To Call A Doctor - Let common sense guide you in your choice of treatment, but don't take any chances either. You should consult a physcian if any of these conditions exist:
if you have any unusually shaped or darkly colored skin growths
if the wart bleeds, hurts or is unusually large
if the wart appears after age 45. This may indicate a more serious problem, like skin cancer.
if the wart does not respond to self-treatment after three months

Good Luck

Should I keep applying salicylic acid to a wart if it's bleeding? I've had this wart on my finger for two years now, and I've been trying to get rid of it using various over the counter remedies. Most recently, I used that liquid acid stuff and thought it worked. But, then it seemed to grow back (I think). Anyway, so I've just started using the acid stuff again and tonight (the second night into this) I soaked it, and then started gently scraping away at the wart area with a file and next thing I know it's bleeding. The bleeding stopped after I put pressure on it for a little while, but now I'm left wondering if or when I should put the acid on the area again. If it's bleeding (and I'm not talking paper cut bleeding - the whole wart 'hole' filled with blood), it's sort of an open wound, right? And somehow putting acid in an open wound doesn't sound like a good idea. Any suggestions?

How can I get rid of gential warts on my mouth? Array

Jean

Admin 07.10.2007. 23:00

Hi Jean

Here are some ideas to heal the issue.

Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: Geranium, lemon, chamomile, tea tree, and/or lavender essential oils applied topically can help speed the healing process.

Diet: Eat a whole foods diet. Eat lots of fresh green salads, raw and steamed vegetables, cultured, fermented products such as yogurt and sauerkraut. Refrain from dairy products, sugar, white flour and other processed foods. Avoid citrus fruits, including pineapple. Buy organic whenever possible and please eat only organic animal protein.

Drink at least 1/2 your weight in ounces of pure water daily with either stabilized liquid oxygen added or water dispensed from an oxygen water cooler.

Flower Essences: The most useful flower essences for dealing with the accompanying emotional/mental stress of cold sores are Rescue Remedy®, Rescue Remedy Cream®, and Crab Apple.

Herbs: Herbs that boost resistance to cold sores by strengthening the immune response include the tinctures of Echinacea, Siberian ginseng, nettle, and goldenseal. Combine in equal parts and take 1/2 teaspoonful of this mixture three times a day. You can also externally apply diluted tincture of myrrh or calendula. Licorice root tincture applied topically has been shown to inactivate herpes simplex particles and inhibit the growth of the virus.

Topical Treatment: Apply vitamin E ointment or saturate gauze with vitamin E oil and apply for 15 minutes over the area of outbreak.

BHT, a natural food preservative, added to an alcohol solution is another effective topical solution.

Caution: The drug acyclovir is typically prescribed (both orally and topically) to treat cold sores. However, it may cause an increase in symptoms when it is discontinued. In addition, antiviral drugs can be hard on the body and especially the liver, making natural, alternative treatment approaches more advisable.

Cause
Herpes simplex virus is the cause of herpes. HSV causes cold sores on the lips and in the mouth and genital herpes in, on or around the genital area. Although once you contract the herpes virus you have it for life, you can stop outbreaks. They can be controlled and in some cases eliminated.

Nearly all people experience cold sores at least one time during their lives. After the first attack, the virus remains dormant in nerve cells, and can be reactivated later by stress, colds, hot weather, anxiety, nutrient deficiencies, or other illnesses, especially ones with accompanying fever. Prolonged cold sore outbreaks may occur in people suffering from compromised immune function or in healthy people who are under high levels of stress.

Herpes zoster, Coxsackie virus, low thyroid, and health problems that suppress immune function can all contribute to cold sore outbreaks, and must be addressed before long-term relief can be achieved.

d.Potassium Deficiency for Warts and Moles: When cysts or tumors grow in places where they can be seen outside the body, often we react by having them cut out.

When to stop Plantar wart treatment? My doctor recomment DuoPlant-- it's an over the counter salicylic acid cream. It makes the skin turn white and then peel off. When I was first using it it made the black dots show up and harden. Several layers have peeled off since and the whole area just looks white (no more dots). Does that mean the wart is gone? The directions said to apply every day for 3-4 weeks and I don't want to continue for longer than necessary (it's been 3 weeks). Has anyone removed these warts before? My feet don't hurt or anything, but I'm on holiday and can't see a doctor.

Hi Ramona

Here are some answers and remedies for your issue. Need to really look at your diet and learn about detoxing the body by doing a colon and liver cleanse to rid of the toxins in the blood.
