Uncovering the Mystery of Spyware

There are intruders lurking in your house right now, tracking your every move, and stealing your personal information and invading your privacy. These intruders are able to consistently escape the eye of the law, they are a silent threat, and most surprisingly, you are the person that opens the door for them and allows them to stay. I’m talking about identity theft, credit card fraud, and unsolicited monitoring by a third party, all in one swipe, and these consequences are only the tip of the iceberg. These thieves aren’t run by complex organizations, like the infamous Sopranos mafia, in fact these people are just your average Joe, from the brainy teenager, to the computer aficionado. All that is needed is a computer, knowledge and a desire to enter the world of spyware.

Spyware is a name for any application that gathers and reports information about a computer user without the user’s knowledge or consent. If you have access to the internet on your PC, chances are you have spyware files, applications or programs on your computer right now. These programs have a mind of their own, once they penetrate your system, they are able to install themselves without your knowledge in your registry, start up menu, files and folders. Don’t be fooled to think that because you rarely go onto the internet or download music and other freeware/shareware, that you are immune from spyware. In fact, an increase number of legitimate software programs are now installing secondary programs to collect data or distribute advertisement, without telling the user what these programs are really doing. The consequences of these secondary programs are that they can severely impair your PCs performance, by using up a large chunk of your computer’s memory resources and abuse network resources by eating bandwidth by transferring information received to a third party, using your internet connection. Ultimately, this could lead to your computer crashing frequently and/or slower performance.

But not all spyware is the same, there are many degrees of severity, which can range from relatively benign to detrimental. Adware is an example of a benign form of spyware, adware tracking cookies allows online companies to track your web surfing activities, and “customize” pop-up advertising messages based on this information. Of more concern are so-called trojans, keyloggers and system monitors, which are capable of capturing keystrokes, online screenshots and personally identifiable information like your Social Security number (SSN) or Social Insurance number (SIN), bank account information, logins and passwards and credit card numbers.

Depending on the type of spyware that you have on your computer, it may be easy to detect an infection. However, some of the most dangerous infections can be difficult to detect, which is why you should have a trusty spyware program to check and remove potential threats. Some common warning bells to the presence of spyware include a slower running computer. Keep in mind that older computers tend to run slower and some programs use up more of the computer’s resources, causing them to run slower. Remember, computers are machines - they do not have moods. But if you suddenly notice a change in the running speed of your PC, that is a good indication that you have spyware. Another symptom of spyware involves your email and the type of messages you are getting. If you are receiving a unusual amount of bounced back mail or if emails being sent on your account, without you actually sending anything, it’s possible that your computer is polluted with Trojan spamware, which can turn your computer into spam headquarters.

Beating spam is not an easy task - it requires acceptance, patience and vigilance. The first step is to accept spam as an inevitable part of the internet. As such, the smartest thing you can do to ward off problems is by investing in a reliable spyware remover program. Taking on this task can be daunting, even if you have a workable knowledge of computers, because there are just so many applications out there claiming to be the best thing since Napster. Separating the good from the not-so-good can be hard, so it’s important to browse around and pick one based on your personal needs.

For those of you who don’t want to commit, or don’t think you need protection from spyware, I recommend you do a free scan of your computer. It is done in a matter of minutes, and is as simple as a few clicks of the mouse. Spyware Hound® is a great tool to have. They are known to thoroughly sniff out and safely remove spyware on your PC. Newly released and very popular AlertSpy® is another trusted program. It is able to detect a range of spyware, adware, Trojan horses, keyloggers and trackware components. Their database is constantly updated, so you are sure to be protected against any and every new threat. There is nothing worst than going through all the trouble of getting something, only to be disappointed in their performance is a feeling you want to avoid. PAL spyware Remover®, I assure you, is a program that won’t disappoint. It is easy to use and offers top notch protection. Quick checking of boxes allows user to tailor the amount of protection you want and need.

Spyware has surpassed viruses as the number one threat facing computers today. It has been reported that at least 90% of computers have already been infiltrated by spyware. In fact, a scan of over one million PCs found 29.5 million instances of spyware, an average of nearly twenty-eight pyware items per computer! Imagine, nearly thirty thieves in your home, rummaging through your personal belongings, now that’s something to think about.
