Do we have an Eco-Friendly World Cup?


Ok. Everyone is looking forward to the world cup, especially us Brits. Within the main stream news we are now witnessing on a daily basis, reports on the positive economic impact this great event is having on the poverty of South Africa and the hope it is bringing to the young.

But how green is this world cup? A study undertaken by the Norwegian government, for South Africa has stated that the 2010 World Cup with have a carbon footprint six times the size of the previous World Cup in Germany. Allowing for the fact that the study included the impact of transport to and from the World Cup, which Germany did not, it still suggests a huge carbon footprint.
