Is It A Good Idea To Buy A New Coat Every Single Winter?

Every year, we cycle through the four seasons. And when it comes to winter, that means a few things. The most important and most obvious is that the weather gets pretty cold, depending on where you live. People respond to cold weather in many ways. Some stay indoors more often, some venture out with more layers on. Still others use it as a reason to hit the malls and buy a new winter outfit, particularly a winter coat. If you wonder if buying a new coat every year is a good idea, then this article is for you. I'll go over the basic good and bad points, so you can make a better decision.

Of course, there are many good reasons to buy a new jacket every winter. One main is that you can always remain on the cutting edge of fashion. Nobody likes to wear last years design. Especially if last year's jacket isn't so appealing anymore, and there's a hot new style out that everybody is wearing. This can be reason enough for most people.

Another compelling reason to buy a new jacket every winter is that technology is always changing. Every year it seems that new materials are being created and invented that are simply more efficient at keeping you warm. If you go a few winters without upgrading your outerwear, you may be losing body heat that you really don't need to.

Of course buying a new coat every winter isn't without it's drawbacks. The most important is that it can get pretty expensive buying a new jacket every year. Of course, it may not seem a lot, since you're really only buying one once a year, but after a while, it can add up.

Another drawback is that pretty soon you'll be running out of closet space. After only a few years, you'll be short on space, and you'll have to either give your jackets away (nobody wants to do that), or use space that wasn't really intended for closet space. This means sticking them in boxes to never bee seen again.

Another reason to consider not buying a jacket every year is that you could spend that money on something much more productive. If you take the cost of a really nice jacket, add that up over ten years, and you could have enough to buy a new TV set or computer.

Which is the better choice? If you have plenty of closet space and plenty of money, then go ahead and buy a new coat. If you are like most of, and both are limited then you can opt for a compromise. Spend a little bit more than you normally would, and choose a conservatively styled coat made of a warm, long lasting material. That way you'll always stay warm, and you'll never go out of style.
