Stuck For Kids Party Ideas? - Don't Give Up Hope - Get Out The Rope!

In the search for interesting and different games for their children's parties some parents really can tie themselves up in knots. This is often made worse by their birthday boy or girl choosing a party theme that doesn't lend itself to any good party games. And I speak as someone whose daughter once chose a Crazy Carrot Party!

The trouble is of course that there is a tendency to only think about the birthday theme. That's fine, but there is a danger that in doing so you forget about tried and tested party games that can easily be given a twist to match any theme.

One such game which is sometimes considered a bit old fashioned is Tug of War. It is actually however a really simple game that kids (both girls and boys) absolutely adore. In particular it makes a really fun way to end a party.

The other great thing about tug of war is that it can be adapted to pretty much any theme.

This can take one of 2 forms:

1. Using team names that match the theme. So for instance you would have a competition between the

Cowboys and Indians at the Wild West party

Tyranosaurus and Stegasauruses at the Dinosaur party

The Black Patch Buccaneers and The Saltmarsh Seadogs at the Pirate party

You could even have elves against pixies at the Fairy party

2. Using an object that is relevant to the theme tied to the middle mark on your rope. So for instance you would have:

A secret file tied to the rope at the Spy party - with teams of agents trying to get it back to their base each side.

A rubber bone at the Pets party - with a team of "dogs" pulling each side.

Cookies at the Sesame Street party - with teams of Cookie Monsters pulling on each side.

A Christmas stocking at the Christmas party - with teams of Santas pulling on either side.

Of course there is nothing to stop you using both ideas at once.

So if you are stuck for party ideas "Don't give up hope - Just get out your rope" and think about how you could give tug of war a twist.
