OMG! QFS How Has GELATO!



As a part of our travels (we live in our RV full time) we include a "Gelato Quest". Every town we visit gets a thorough search for their gelato offerings, and we then embark on a rigorous taste test to see which of them live up to our gold standard. We established the Gold Standard at a small gelateria in Rome located at the Trevi Fountain.

We stayed for 2 months at the beginning of 2011 on the Olympic Peninsula in the small town of Chimacum Washington. You guessed it. No gelato shops to be found. In fact, there was no gelato to be found anywhere west of Puget Sound. So we reached out and took a ferry ride from Kingston to Edmunds since we heard there was gelato to be found "up the hill" at a boutique market on Highway 99. Up the hill meant walking more than 3 miles straight up the hill only to find out that the "boutique" market was really a very large supermarket, and that they sold gelato but only in the freezer section next to the ice cream. Nevertheless, we bought a pint and ate it on the ferry ride back. Oh, our aching feet!
