Its a fact that the elderly senior population, is using sophisticated drug therapies in record quantities. This has to help make highly educated pharmacists "one" of the hottest commodities in health care industry. Theres a growing concern that perhaps there just might not be enough pharmacists to staff pharmacies and dispensing patient prescriptions.
Pharmacy schools will have to be responding by focusing themselves and their graduates, but demand is already outpacing supply. No quick cure is in immediate sight. There is arising demand for people preparing to launch or change careers, A few developments have boosted the demand for pharmacists:
1. We see a growing population of older Americans who require more drug therapy.
2. Theres a rise in the number and complexity of therapeutic drugs.
3. Its true that an expansion of services will require pharmacists knowledge and skills.
4. There will be a real need for more health professionals approved to prescribe medicines, including some advanced nurses, physicians assistants and optometrists.
These changes have already started to produce mobility among the nations registered pharmacists. Pharmacists are being recruited to growth areas. Advances in drug therapy have allowed some conditions to be treated without a hospital stay. The increased use of these complex therapies means pharmacists will play a larger role in Senior Care.
