Halloween Helpers

Odds and Ends Halloween Helpers:

To create your own costume blood:  Pour two tablespoons of clear corn syrup into a bowl.  Stir in red food coloring until the syrup reaches the desired shade of red.
Apply to your face or other body parts.  Enjoy all the treats your costume brings in!

For spooky-looking smoke, add dry ice to a cauldron, tub or other “halloweeny” container and pour warm water over it. Dry ice is available at most grocery stores. Add more water as the smoke dissipates until the dry ice is gone.

If you’re growing your own pumpkins, when your pumpkin is a few months old, very carefully lift the stem and vine in one hand and the pumpkin in the other and adjust it so that its bottom sits flat on the ground. This will encourage the classic pumpkin shape as it grow to maturity.

For those adults whose Halloween celebrations will include alcohol, if youre hosting a party, provide non-alcoholic drinks and plenty of food; don’t drink and drive; if you’re going to drive somewhere, watch for children (child deaths are four times higher on Halloween evening than on any other evening during the year).
