Madagascar is an animated comic adventure from PDI/DreamWorks about a bunch of zoo animals returned to the wild. A lion, a zebra, a giraffe and a hippo are best friends who have spent their entire lives in New Yorks Central Park Zoo. The civilized New Yorkers end up on the island of Madagascar off the coast of Africa where they must fend for themselves.
I took my kid to see this film and the theatre was jam packed full of kids. Its been awhile since theres been an animated feature targeted for children so the anticipation was thick. The main voices were done by Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, and Jada Pinket Smith. Chris Rock was the zebra and wanted to go to the wild (they were all stuck in the NY Zoo). Ben Stillers character was the vain lion, who was the big attraction at the zoo. He was very full of himself and was completely spoiled. Jadas character was the Hippo, very cute and not a big part of the movie. In my opinion the best character was the penguin, whose voice was done by Andy Richter. The penguins had the funniest parts of the movie. Overall, I give this movie 2 stars. I left the movie saying, "That was the best they could do?!" The whole story was very weak, and the characters werent too lovable. The characters argued too much and Ben Stillers blend of humor was a little abrassive for a childrens movie. Chris Rock did a wonderfull job as well as Jada. When I asked my son about the movie he was more interested in getting a toy in the lobby, where normally hes screaming out lines and saying how great the movie was.
