Clash of the Titans is a high action packed remake of the classic 1981 film of the same name. This digitized 3-D epic is a retelling of the storied battle between good and evil. The 2010 film stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes among others, playing the roles of Gods, Humans, and evil beings not seen since the mythical age. While well received at the box office by movie goers, earning over $60 million in its opening weekend, how the movie compare in terms of quality?
Clash of the Titans tells the story of Perseus, the half god-half man son of the Zeus, King of all the gods and ruler of Mt. Olympus. Perseus finds himself in the middle of the ultimate battle between good and evil. Evil here is represented by many CGI created beasts and the so called ruler of the underworld, Hades. Perseus is played by Sam Worthington who does just enough to make us believe he can easily play a sword wielding brute, while Neeson and Fiennes, who are great actors in their own right give the film true star backing by playing Zeus and Hades. The two brothers, Zeus and Hades, are fighting to see who is right in their belief of their human subordinates.
The reviews that have been pouring in over this film are a mixed bag of goodies....the overall gist is that many reviewers aren't particularly impressed at all. Sure the action is cool and the monsters are wonderfully digitally simulated, but the storyline and plot is sub-par. The film is marketed as being 3-D, but the producers basically just tacked on the effect after seeing the monstrous success of Avatar this past winter. The 3-D effects are to few and far between to be taken seriously. Also the fact that this is a remake of a very popular 1981 film that many critics hold dear in their heart and the lackluster effect of this current edition creates an experience that many reviewers did not like.
There are some positive reviews out there, and I am here to say I do recommend this film. I say that with a understanding that if you are a fan of this genre, action and adventure. You will enjoy this movie if you do not take it to seriously, grab your popcorn and candy, sit back and enjoy the ride...even if its a little cheesy.
