The majority of teenagers and young adults love to learn to play the guitar. What they do not expect is how tough it might be and the measure of dexterity that is required. One thing that may help make learning it easier is to have the right guitar to begin with.
Before you start lessons you should think about what type of guitar you want to be playing when you get perfect at it; acoustic or electric? Many teachers will suggest that it is better to begin with an acoustic. Yet, if your ultimate goal is to understand electric than it may be best to merely begin with one and allow yourself to become accustomed to the feel of it.
These are not inexpensive instruments and can very well cost you up to $500 or more. Put together a budget for yourself that you are not able to go over no matter what happens. Go on eBay or to a consignment store and try to find a good starter guitar that is affordable. It is ok to start low-cost because you will eventually trade it in for something that you enjoy.
You will save money if you go with a used model - but is it really worth it? The only problem with buying one that is utilized is the risk that you may be given a model that does not work properly. Unless you personally know the person and trust what they say we urge sticking to something new.
Getting one of these is like choosing an outfit at the clothing store. You need to find one that will work with your height and body type. Go to the music store and play with a few to see how they feel. When you are there pick up other necessary guitar provisions you might need.
