How To Guide To Be Successful In Nursing And Breastfeeding

First of all, congratulations on your new addition to your family. I hope you, like I did, are planning to nurse your child. There are so many benefits to nursing that it is worthwhile to take my advise and conquer nursing.

First of all, let me list just a few of the benefits of nursing your child.

1. Inseparable bond it will create.

2. Money savings.

3. Builds a strong immunity to germs, infections, etc.

4. Lose baby weight much quicker.

With that being said, preparing your breasts for this is so important to be able to withstand the abuse it puts on your breasts. I know this sounds crazy but what I did was rub a brillo pad on the nipples to make them raw and build a tolerance for the pain. I would say to start doing that as soon as you can. Diet is also so important to allowing your milk to come in. Protein and whole milk are essential for your body. These are just a few things you can do to prepare for a healthy and successful nursing experience.

OK so baby is here!! Your boobs are sore and you are going to attempt to breast feed your child for the first time. Hopefully you took my advise in the previous paragraph to get your nipples ready for the abuse. Yes its going to hurt. One of the main reasons for the pain is your baby doesn't know how to feed. The best way to train your baby is make sure they do it right the first few feedings. The baby's mouth has to be around the whole aola, not just the nipple. The best time for this to transpire is when the baby is crying due to the fact that is when the baby's mouth is opened the biggest. You train your baby to grab the whole aola, not just the nipple, when the milk starts coming in, the pain is SIGNIFICANTLY less.

Now that you have mastered the technique of feeding, take your double-sided pump and make sure to completely drain all the milk out of your breasts, even though your baby doesn't drink all your boobs have to offer. This will train your boobs to produce enough milk to satisfy your baby. Spend some money on a good pump to ensure it draws all the milk out. Keep in mind, you will be pumping quite a bit but trust me, it is worth it. Buy some bags for breast milk storage so you can have once your milk starts going away. The longer your child is on breast-milk, the more time your baby benefits from it.

This is just a few things that could help you out.
