Leash Training a Puppy in Rural Areas

Not all dogs live in urban or suburban areas so leash training a puppy is important. There are many rural areas where you can let your puppy off a leash when you walk but some people live in the city. Some of you are probably joggers and enjoy long training runs and what better way to go on your training run with your best friend with you? In rural areas, many dogs are usually bigger dogs and need a lot of exercise. Though your dog is safer in a rural area than in an urban or suburban area, there are still some dangerous situations, however, that you need to discipline your puppy in proper walking with a lead or leash. You may be jogging on a county road where the traffic may be far and few between, but cars may pass at a much higher rate of speed. For this reason, you should always walk your dog on a lead.

Walking your puppy on a leash in a rural area allows you to have a longer lead that lets your puppy run with the four winds. There are many leashes that are available and some people have some makeshift rope leashes that are very long, but these leashes can be hard to control. If you are looking for a nice long leash to walk your dog with, you should consider a spring-coil leash or retractable lead or leash. This is a great leash that was invented in Germany and is a long thin rope that is rolled up on a coil inside a heavy-duty plastic box with a handle. Some of these retractable leashes can let your dog run as far ahead as forty feet, but the great thing is that you can control the movement by depressing a button that locks on teeth inside the pulley, allowing you to pull the dog back close to you quickly and easily without turning a crank.

Training your puppy to run with you is very important if you want to jog with your dog. This is a great way that both of you can get the exercise you need. The retractable leash is great for joggers, because this allows the puppy to pull ahead when you are jogging, yet it gives you control over your puppy and allows you to cut your puppy short if you have to. Furthermore, many joggers have a set pace they like to jog at and they need to have their dog run at that pace as well. For this reason it is a good idea to have your dog run well ahead of you when you are jogging in an area where there is not much traffic. Your dog will usually sense when you are jogging or walking at a fast pace and will set his pace according to yours.

Pooping and peeing on the walk may not be as noteworthy when walking your dog in rural areas, because there are more wild areas where your puppy can do his business. The only thing is like in urban areas, common sense should prevail and you should train your dog not to poop on people
