One of the most fun and scenic resort golf courses in the desert are the two 18 - hole beauties at Marriott's Desert Springs. I got to play this course recently with out of town guests who were staying at the massive desert hotel which has long been the crown jewel in the Marriott chain.
Designed by acclaimed golf architect Ted Robinson's who is known as 'King of Waterscapes' the 'Palm' and the 'Valley' courses are beautifully landscaped. But there is more than just water and landscape to these two courses.
Created to provide golfers of all ages and abilities an enjoyable round the greens are well maintained and relatively flat. The course is littered with bunkers, water hazards and strategically placed trees.
There are newer high tech drive golf carts with state-of-the-art navigational and computing systems. The on board GPS computer provides graphic layouts of each hole and computes exact yardage to the pin and other points of reference.
The pro shop is top rate with Taylor made clubs for rent, so if you are flying in to the desert you don't have to drag around your own clubs. There is also a Taylor Made Performance Lab directly across from the pro shop if you need to correct that "hitch" in your swing or are simply looking for more distance.
Lunch or a snack can be ordered as you tee off from the 18th hole and be waiting for you at Sand Trap & Wedge restaurant. I prefer, however, to wait to eat at one of the hotels other restaurants like the Oasis Bar and Grill or the Lake view.
While spending the day on the golf course with my friends from back east, my wife and her friends spent the day at the Spa Desert Springs.
After our day of golf and the ladies day of beauty, I showered and returned with my wife for a dinner at the Japanese styled restaurant the Mikado.
So on your next vacation to Palm Springs and the desert resort cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta you might consider spending the day golfing at the Marriott Desert Springs.
