The Team

Blackhawks tickets went on sale all the way back in 1926. Chicago Stadium would become home ice for the team in 1929 and soon take on the nickname "The Madhouse on Madison". The name reflected the loud echoing sounds within the arena from die hard hockey fans. The franchise was granted to a Chicago coffee company owner named Frederic McLaughlin. He was in the 86th Infantry Division during World War I which went by the name "Blackhawks Division" and where he got the name for the NHL team. He was a very active owner and acted as general manager, he worked towards bringing the sport of hockey to the main stream in America.

The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the first six hockey teams within the National Hockey League. The other five original franchises are the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. The club plays in the Central Division of the Western Conference located in Chicago, Illinois. Since 1994 they play their home games at the "United Center", the previous 65 years the home ice was located within Chicago Stadium.

The Blackhawks enjoyed great success during the beginning two decades of their history. The team would win their first Stanley Cup in 1934 by beating the Detroit Red Wings. Another "Cup" would come in 1938 with a decisive victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. They would take their third Stanley Cup back to Chicago in 1961 by defeating the Red Wings once again in the finals. Blackhawks tickets for the finals would not go on sale again until 2010 where they met the Philadelphia Flyers. The series was finished in six action filled games and the Chicago Blackhawks went on to win their fourth Stanley Cup.

Besides the four Stanley Cup wins in the team's history, they have won fourteen division titles since their founding in 1926. Though going through a long drought without a championship the Blackhawks consistently made the playoffs each decade. Before taking it all in 2010 the team had not won a championship since 1961, which adds up to 49 years, the second longest drought in NHL history.
