Celebrity Golf At The Fred "The Hammer" Williamson Golf Event

If you are a golfer, the annual Fred "Hammer" Williamson celebrity golf should be part of your next Palm Springs vacation.

This past December I had the chance to attend this star studded event which paired celebrities from the world of sports and Hollywood in a scramble format with amateur golfers. And it was all for a good cause, raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project a 501 (c)(3) charity that helps returning soldiers from the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Some of the celebrities that appeared at the 2010 event were Jim Brown, Elgin Baylor, Jay Johnstone, Bobby Winkles, Jamaal Wilkes, Tommy Davis, Willie Gault and others from the world of sports and show biz.

Mercedes Benz agreed to donate a 2010 Cabriolet as a hole-in-one prize on the 16th hole. Unfortunately, no one was able to take home the car. There were also prizes awarded to the winning team as well as closest to the hole and long drive competition. The cost for a round of golf, the pairings party, award ceremony and to mingle with the celebrities at the awards dinner was an all - inclusive price of $150.00.

Well worth it, in my opinion.

Pete Carlson Golf & Tennis in Palm Desert hosted the pairings party and those who turned out were treated to great food, wine and prizes.

This golf event is held annually at the Indian Canyons Resort in Palm Springs the first Friday in December starting with a continental breakfast and color guard presentation is truly one of the most fun experiences I have ever had on a golf course.

Oh yes, did I mention that I played 18 holes with my idol... Laker legend Elgin Baylor.

Truly a great event benefiting a very worthy cause.
