He Shall Neither Slumber Nor Sleep

How is it that whenever you find yourself in a desperate situation, it seems to be in the middle of the night, on weekends, or other times when no one is available? Whether you need instant wisdom or just a shoulder to cry on, there really is someone who never sleeps, and is waiting for you with open arms at any time of the day or night.

David cried out: "Let my cry come near to thee, O Lord: give me understanding according to thy word." (Ps. 119: 169) Even David had doubts whether God was asleep or too far away to hear him. He had sinned and knew he was in trouble. He soon discovered, though, as you will, that when you approach God with a contrite heart and reverence, He surely hears your very first cry.

"In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me," David testified. He had a long chat with the Lord, crying: "I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war." (Ps. 120: 1;7)

Do you have times when you're sure that you're doing all the right things; yet everyone around you seems to be antagonistic towards you? Nothing you do seems to be going right; nobody understands you, until you're at the end of your rope and cry out for help in desperation. Then you discover there is one person who hears and understands you. He neither "slumbers nor sleeps. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil." (Ps. 121: 4)

God is who He says He is, and you can trust Him for all your needs and you can go to Him for every hurt! Nothing is either too big or insignificant to Him.

During any type of distress you tend to look down in shame, pain or confusion, right? Initially thoughts of hurt and maybe anger come flooding in. And you answer those feelings by agreeing that you have a 'right' to feel the way you do. Remember this: A victim will stay down as long as he entertains thoughts of hopelessness.

But, the Lord is always there for you! So, no matter what the problem or the time of day, as David learned, you can choose to make a decision and declare:

"I shall lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord." (Ps. 121: 1-2)

By physically looking up towards heaven, you make a conscious effort to take your mind off the earthly situation and look full into His radiant face. That's where your Hope is. He has the answer and the peace that you're looking for.

The secret to receiving the Wisdom for every situation is contained in eight little words:

"Be still, and know that I am God." (Ps. 46: 10)

It's in the quiet times spent with Him that the answer to your needs will be revealed. Therefore my friend, take heart, God never sleeps. No matter how difficult your situation:

"The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles." (Ps. 34: 15;17)
