4 Tips to Break Through a Systems Breakdown With a Smile

It's 11:47 p.m. Saturday night and I just hung up after 2 hours on the phone with a computer technician named Karthick.

This was on the heels of 2 weeks of technological and communications breakdowns that brought my business to a grinding halt.

If you've run your own practice for any length of time, you should have your own systems in place to streamline your day-to-day operations. But what happens when you have a breakdown that threatens your business ~ and your peace of mind?

Here are 4 tips that allowed me to break through my breakdown with a smile still on my face:

Tip #1: Align With Happy

Every moment of every day, you're surrounded with a spectrum of energies that radiate at different vibrations and tones.

Just as a Biodynamic practitioner helps clients synchronize with the healing rhythm of the long tide, you have the opportunity to CHOOSE the energies and rhythms you want to align with, too.

When I'm stuck like I was the last 2 weeks, I like to go straight for Happy. For me, that feels like a pink balloon expanding in my chest. When I align with Happy, I can feel my heart-space expanding. And any negative thoughts I had a moment ago drift away.

Try it yourself. Close your eyes and remember a time when you were happy. Get a sense of how that feels in your body. Now allow the memory to fall away and simply feel the feeling.

For an extra boost, place the palm of your hand against that spot and gently press. You'll anchor the feeling in your body and in your cellular memory.

Tip #2: Put Help In Place

As a CranioSacral Therapist, you probably run your own practice. And as a solopreneur, you should have help in place to handle those things that don't reflect your special gifts and skills.

For me, that's Angee, my client-care manager and all-around technical whiz. When my website crashed, she was on the phone getting it fixed while I was doing what I do best - writing, coaching and creating systems for you!

So get a head start on growing your practice and better managing your life. Make a list of all those day-to-day tasks that don't represent your unique brilliance. Then get help from someone who likes to play at what feels like work for you.

Tip #3: Surround Yourself With Upliftment

It's been said that when it comes to success, your environment always wins. That doesn't just mean your physical space, but also the people and ideas you surround yourself with on a daily basis.

Do you have people in your life who talk you up when you're feeling down? Or do they try to beat your misery by sharing more of their own?

When my systems crashed, I made a point of spending an evening with my best pals. We made a delicious dinner and spent the next few hours talking about our dreams.

It was a night filled with magic. And I went to bed remembering that anything is possible.

Tip #4: Prepare Ahead to Resource Yourself

Suzanne Scurlock-Durana, CranioSacral Therapist and author of "Full Body Presence," touts the need to prepare in advance for those times you feel beaten and alone.

How? By keeping a running list of specific things that "resource you."

My list includes everything from hot baths to meditation. But when I get really down I pull out the big guns: I leave my desk and go to a bookstore.

Every time I walk into one, I feel like I'm falling in love. I don't even have to buy anything. Just knowing that I'm surrounded by the secrets of life is enough to lift my spirits again.
