Maintaining and Fertilizing Bermuda Grass

Bermuda grass is a tough and resilient turf. By taking proper care of this type lawn you can maintain a tough turf that will be healthy and resist weeds. Bermuda grass will respond superbly if it properly fertilized. This type of grass requires a large amount of sunlight. Fertilizing Bermuda grass helps it become resilient and beautiful. There are many different products that can be used in maintaining this type of turf.

The best lawn fertilizer that you chose should have a combination of fast-release nitrogen and time-released nitrogen. The fast-release will green the grass quickly, and the timed-release will maintain the lawn for a few months. Using a winterizer on your Bermuda grass will help the lawn green quickly in the spring. A winterizer has time-released nitrogen and extra potassium. Using lime on soil will help if the soil is too acidic. To determine whether you need the lime, it is recommended to do a soil test. Too much lime can raise the Ph levels of soil too high, causing needed nutrients to become harder for the plants to obtain. To keep Bermuda grass looking fresh and beautiful, weeds need to be prevented and destroyed. Crabgrass preventer can work great for crabgrass and many types of broadleaf weeds. Other fertilizers combine feed for lawn with weed killers to stimulate growth of the grass while destroying many types of weeds for various lengths of time.

Applying the products to Bermuda grass should be done in the correct seasons. For example, if Lime is needed it should be applied in late winter. Fertilizer should be applied from spring to early summer, and winterizer should be applied in early fall. If weeds have become a problem in Bermuda grass, then the crabgrass preventer should be applied in winter, before the grass turns green. Other weed killers should be applied in the spring. Following these basic guidelines can help keep Bermuda grass looking great.
