Maintain the proper length of your dogs nails

Your dog needs bathing regularly
Use dog shampoos and conditioners which you can get from pet stores. Do not use flea and tick shampoos without any purpose as they can dry out your pets skin. After shampooing, rinse your dog thoroughly because if you leave soap on skin there could be problems. Eliminate knots and mats before or after the bath otherwise you will worsen them. Dry your dog at low heat because dogs are very sensitive to hot temperatures especially after bathing. Bathing also prevents your dog from infestations of fleas and ticks. Put some cotton in your dogs ears before bathing because water in the ears can cause ear infections. Bathing washes away dead hair so it reduces shedding of your dogs coat.

Use dog ear cleaner, bought from any pet store. It is very important to keep your dogs ears clean and dry in order to reduce ear infections and ear mites. Use a small quantity of ear cleaner on a cotton ball to swab outer surface of the inner ear. You may also use ear wipes to keep dogs ears clean. Longhair dogs especially need cleaning as they grow hair in their ears which should be pulled to prevent ear infections with hemostats. Dog groomers or veterinarians can do this for you.
